Good For Beginners

I think these mics are awsome for beginner singers or vocalist. It is very good for the price and works well with loud power amps. The mic is very durable and can be used for all kinds of different reasons with music. Digital Referene is a great brand!

Decent microphone for the price

The DR-VX1 Dynamic is a decent microphone. Sound is clear; little feedback as long as you use a quality cable. One main complaint: you have put the microphone too close to your mouth to get a good sound.

Good Sound, but not for hand held vocals.

I bought Digital Reference DR-VX1 Dynamic Cardioid Vocal Microphone on the recommendation from the sales person. It is, and feels very durable in its construction, should stand up to years of abuse. It has good sound for a mic in this price range. I do agree with other reviews that it is probably more of an entry level mic, you have to get very close to it to get a good sound, so don't expect it to be like a SM-58. It has a bright sound, and picks up the highs and lows that you need to sound good enough for most small venues. The only problem I see with the mic, is when you handle it, the chord, or touch the mic stand, you can here every move or sound made. This does not happen with more expensive mics. You cannot hand hold this mic in any way shape or form without it being noticed. I tried recording with it, and did not get very far. Put it on a stand, don't touch it, and sing, and it works great. I'd rate it a solid four stars if it weren't for this. Bottom line, if I was on a tight budget, or in a crunch I'd buy one. It gets used for back up singing sometimes, or mic'ing an amp or drum, but for lead vocals, or general stage use, I'd still take an SM-58 over this any day.

Not bad for the price

For the money, this isn't bad. Handling noise is a little high so it has to be held carefully, but is fine stand mounted. It's robust and has a lively sound but good side rejection so feedback isn't much of a problem. A foam windshield to take the singer a little further away from the capsule helps to reduce proximity effect. Overall a handy mike to have, and strong enough to last a good while. I'd buy it again
