I have had a minimal amount of recording experience, but the MBox 2 is very easy to use for beginners! It's easy to setup and download. The interface COMES WITH the latest Pro Tools Software. I think the only flaw is that Pro Tools can only be used with an interface made by digidesign and M-Audio. So if you're looking to expand to a bigger interface, your choices in companies are limited. Other than that, it works very well.
The Mbox2 is a perfect solution to anyone who wants to start up a home studio using Pro Tools. I bought this in order to learn the program and I've been totally satisfied with the results. I record mainly myself and occasionally small groups of friends, so I never need to record with too many microphones, but the two inputs allow me to run my Soundcraft mixer into the Mbox and then use the inputs from the mixer in order to record more tracks simultaneously. It is quite versatile and has allowed me to record simple mono recordings to intricate drum mic setups. This was truly worth the value considering the power of the software that comes with it.
The M-Box is the best ad on to my recording home studio, teamed with protools, you can really hear the difference in you recording from others brands, if i ever decide to upgrade, i will be sticking with the digidesign family, you should but it if you are serious about you music..
Well they don't tell you until you have payed for it. It will not run on the new 64 bit computers, you have to have a Digidesign qualified computer which is almost impossible to find. Avid tech support is the worst, the process of getting help from them is harder than getting this thing to run. After trying 4 different computers and upgrading memory etc. I bought a new machine 32 bit because it will not run on 64 bit. Well long story short. It still will not run and of coarse they will not take it back! I was trying to record music not join the geek squad. Just be warned this program is very picky about everything and you are on your own.
the mbox 2 has it all, a mic pre amp, midi, etc! it is really worth every cent. You dont only get an audio interface, but you also get PRO TOOLS LE!
I've own the mbox2 for about a month now and I really can't complain. This is a pretty decent peice of equipment, It has really helped me get my home studio started. I'm not the wiz with pro tools but with the hardware came basic instructions that could get you a little familiar with the software. What more can you ask for. As the mbox revolution goes on this peice of equipment is going to eliminate many. It's not perfect but It's good enough to not knock.
I just purchased this less than a month ago and I cannot stop! The software registration is a little annoying at first but once that's done you're up and running in no time. Pro tools is very easy to set up and record with and the bundle software is not bad either. The BFD Drums sounds are very realistic and the Amplitube plug-in is awesome. I just plug straight into the M-box and I can make it sound like a dimed full stack without annoying the neighbors. Definately a must have if for your home studio.
This Mbox 2 is unbelieveable! I have owned it for over 6 months and it has been great. I use it everyday along with Protools LE. I record with a Akai MPC1000 and many live instruments and the sound is great, and for the price it can not be beatin. I have use many other interfaces in the past but I am glad I finally bought one that was well worth it.
Clean preamps and great software for a good price are the best things about the Mbox. Offers a great practice ground for Pro Tools and high-quality on-the-go recording when combined with a laptop. There other options in the same price range with more channels, but there's no Pro Tools. Great package.
