The features on this new Mbox 2 pro is amazing. I've been waiting for a reason to upgrade and the Mbox 2 pro is it. With the ability to finally record at 96khz and still be mobile, not only are my recordings that much clearer and smoother but I am still able to bring my studio to the customer. Initial set up is still pretty fast as well. Just like the usual hook up you just have to go threw the regular installation procedures. Start up time after that is fast even with a laptop. Within 1 to 3 minuets your ready to rock and role. Just hook the box up start the software and hook up your cables, mic or other equipment and your good to go. I also love the fact that with all the new inputs I am able to hook up to just about any equipment there is without needing another means to interface. Some of my recordings required me to Gerry rig a mic or hook up a bunch of equipment to pick up the sound but now I can hook up directly keeping the sound clean and clear. I haven't used the Turntable pre input yet but I'm sure I will soon. The pre amp built in to the mbox2 pro is still amazing and is enough to get you by. It isn't an Avalon but it still records a smooth warm sound. I love the fact that there is also a dedicated studio monitor outs with volume control. This eliminates the need for a mixer to control the monitor outs without affecting the signal volume going to the monitor headphones. As you know any change to the headphones can greatly change how the artist delivers his/her music. The software is still the amazing Protools 7. Enough said. The only problem is that the price is a little high. For what your getting its still a bargain but I think a couple of bills could still be shaved off the top to make it more affordable. We are all just struggling artist here. All in all. I'm glad that I waited to upgrade, Digi out did them selves this time. I dont know how I managed without it. Good by Mbox hello MBOX 2 PRO.

On the surface, it's got a nice feature set. In real use - the word mediocre fits very well here: - mediocre headphone amps - mediocre mic preamps - unbalanced monitor outputs, at what appears to be consumer -10 level - semi-operable S/PDIF I/O - caused problems when used at the same time as an Oxford 922 FW800 RAID drive, which works fine with several other FW audio interfaces. My guess is that those who wrote the glowing reviews haven't used any 'pro' gear, like an Apogee Ensemble, RME Fireface, Metric Halo. This hardware doesn't compare well against more modest gear such as the Presonus Firebox or Focusrite Saffire, and isn't even the quality of a scaled down Digidesign 002 Rack. I returned mine after 5 days.

WIll not install

By King

from Baltimore,Md

I have knowledge about Pro tools and all of its features. But Pro tools 8 LE will not install. Everyone on the web has had the same problem and spent over 2000 having to buy a new cpu just for it to install fully. When it installs the cpu has to reboot, but when it does it states pace error 3. The website states they know of this issue but as of right now doesn't know how to fix it. They don't even have an available CSR to help you, no number. For the amount of money that you spend on this product they should.

Amazing

By RatherBeSurfin

from Orlando, Fl

This is a great unit. No suprise - its Digidesign. The industry standard. The people that wrote bad reviews obviously shouldnt own one since they dont know how to use it. ProTools is a great program, I guess it would have been a little better if more plug ins came with it, and it wasnt such a pain to do the authorizing and licensing. Thats really the only down side. Other than that it perfect. The sound has that pro touch to it, and the mic pre's are clear and crisp as well. Get one!!

A Mistake

By nickfu1981

from VA

The best part about this product was that the software that came with it, because it turned me onto Ableton Live which I upgraded to full and love to death. The interface itself...well, do yourself a favor and buy a presonus firepod or something. This interface works decently, most of the time. The rest of the time, drops the signals I'm monitoring, so I have to unplug it and restart my DAW. Your money would be better spent elsewhere.

Setup & Support

By glmtrm

from Maplewood, Minnesota

The product itself is good but the time it took to set it up, install, and FINALLY get it to operate correctly was practically a nightmare. Tech support was almost non-exsistent, I had to buy extra hardware (not mentioned in the advertisement) in order to get it operational. In the end it cost more than I thought it was worth in both time and money. Not recommended for the average computer user. It takes considerable knowledge in order to get it up and running. Try something else before deciding on this program.

Great Bang For Buck!

By Bossman

from Atlanta, GA

For $800 this is a great buy. With the right accessories you can really produce professional sounding recordings. When I decided to set up a home studio versus pay for studio time like i've done in the past, I didn't expect to sound this good in such a short time. The Mbox 2 pro isn't perfect but it has exceeded my expectations.

Great program

By MRD3k

from North Port, FL

This is the standard for an affordable way of recording. It's options are endless. The bundle makes this a great deal for anybody wanting to start recording. The software ProTools is used by many popular producers and boy does this program do it all. If you want to begin recording your music, buying the Mbox2 is the best deal out there.

Digidesign Rules!

By Jeries2003

from Phoenix AZ

I was thrilled with the original MBOX i owned so I did not hesitate to get the latest version. Although its much more expensive than the first MBOX its worth the value. The additional Factory software is an incredible value. Easy to use and install. AMAZING for mobile recording, works great with a laptop.
