Digidesign Mbox 2 Mini is an incredibly compact and easy-to-use USB Pro Tools LE audio workstation. Mbox 2 Mini is an ideal solution for beginners (like your students) getting into recording music on their computers or learning how to work with a mobile Pro Tools system. The Mini has two channels of simultaneous analog I/O, 24-bit/48kHz sound quality, an XLR jack with 48V phantom power, two 1/4" line-/instrument-level jacks, zero-latency monitoring, two 1/4" monitor outputs, headphone jack, and front-panel volume and mute controls. The compact design makes it perfectly portable, as does the USB-bus power support.
The Mbox 2 Mini also includes Pro Tools LE software with over 50 effects and instrument plug-ins from Bomb Factory, Digidesign, and more. There's enough here to get your pupils off and running, making music any which way they want.

This thing works great! If you want to start working with protools without spending much money this is the way to go! The only bad thing is that it doesn't have midi.. but for the price you can't go wrong with this! The preamps work good for home recordings!
Comments about Digidesign MBox 2 Mini Educational:
The mxbox mini is perfect for a good home studio. It has perfect sounding audio inputs. While you may need some power amplifiers and preamps and extensions for headphones and usb inputs to really have the mbox mini be professional, it is a great start and a great price for a typically expensive peice of equipment.

I bought this interface just to fufill my need for ProTools compatibility. For the price it definitely does that. Plus the new version of PT you get with it has alot of bells and whistles. Also its nice that its bus powered so its easy to travel with and to hook up. If you want to get in the game (the protools game that is) then you cant go wrong for the money with this one.

I finally made the switch to pro tools with this interface. I'm glad I did. I've been able to operate it since it came out of the box using only you tube tutorials. I'm new to software based recording, and this box is user friendly yet as capable as you will need it to be for home recording. It really is "plug and play".

I use to love the Mbox 2 mini but after updating to pro tools LE 8.05 it sucks hard. I keep getting Kernel Panics and then the gray screen of death that says restart your system. The report shows that the Mbox 2 is the cause. I had to replace my 7 month old iMac with a brand new i5 quad core in hopes that the mbox 2 mini would work and of course it crashed my system. I have tried to contact avid via forums just to find out that this is an on going problem. I cant believe they want to charge $70.00 plus dollars just to ask one question! Try to email them the question instead the link takes you to the Avid forum or to purchase the trouble ticket. This issue is almost two years old and of course avid says do this do that remove this and so on and of course it does not work and they will not respond to their avid forum regarding the the post saying the fix they issued did not address the problem. One person posted to them "694 people cant be wrong." Avids reply silence. Get something else from another company who takes customer service seriously and not living off accolades from years ago as the industry standard.
