In the recording world, you got to have some wisdom when it comes to spending money. If you need a clean sounding interface, specially for vocals, the DIGI 002(rack) is the wisest decision. You get more than a professional interface, it comes with a bundle that is hard to resist : Pro Tools LE, Ableton Live Lite, Sample Tank, and Reason Adapated. I am a faithfull Logic Pro 7 user, and the DIGI 002 (rack) works perfectly with my application. Even though Pro Tools is not my DAW of choice, most studios work on the Pro Tools platform, so I benefit from having the application because it is easier to share jobs with comercial studios.

very good unit, maybe a little pricey

By Bryanonbass

I bought this unit as an upgrade to my digi001 unit. I wanted something that was portable so that I could bring it essentially anywhere and record. I used this for about 3 months before I decided to sell it. My main problem with it was actually not so much the unit but the software. I am primarily a windows user and ProTools for Windows just hade too many bugs. Digidesign support is very good and the user base is incredible for troubleshooting. I just had too many crashes with regard to my setup. My setup is very basic. Mic or instrument into 002R. 002r into the laptop or Desktop and out of the 002R into monitoring speakers. (KRK powered set). I would record into protools and have a software synth track providing my drum sounds (free Reason that came with 002R). The actual 002R unit was quite good. The preamps were fairly transparent with very little noise. I am not a pro so I did not use any noise monitor, I just use my ears. The only issue I had with the unit was the firewire port. Sometimes it would recognize it and sometimes it wouldn't. I tried a few different firewire cards (all recommended by Digidesign) and on both of my computers (laptop and desktop) and I got the same results. Exchanged the unit and had the same thing happen. Overall this is a decent piece of equipment for what it does. I know many people who use them and love em. ProTools is an industry standard and there is a reason for that. I would recommend this unit to others, but I would have to mention the issues I had with it.

Perfect Home Studio in a box!

By Matt L.

from Sandwich, Il

I purched this product about a month ago and am very pleased with the results that it produced. The software is real easy to understand and use. The powered inputs make things very easy to hook up. Although it would be nice it all 8 channels had pre-amp capabilty. I'm using 2 of the Audio Buddys by m-audio to power the remaining four channels. This is a good product to start out with for the rank amatures that some of us musicans are. I'm pleased very much with this unit and recommened it to anyone!

Lives Up To The Hype and Then some

By audiorok

For years I have wanted to try Digidesigns Products. When They came Out With The Digi 002 Rack I made the Investment. I wasn't Disapointed. The Sound Quality and features Made it all worth It. Once I became familiar with the software I was working completely in Protools with ease. The way It works with Other software such as Acid and Fruity loops makes it even better. It is also compatible with most major software so you are not limited. The Sound quality and Plugins available are also a Big Plus. They are always expanding the capabilities through products such as The music production toolkit (which adds plugins and more tracks). Thanks Digidesign

Yes you do need one

If you are seriously looking to get into recording I think the 002R is probably the best place to start. I have had mine for well over a year and if something happened to it I would go out and by another one the next day. It has proved endless opportunities to learn and has just been a lot of fun to work with. It has everything you need to get started right out of the box, yet you can continue to up grade important things like pre-amps etc while still keeping the 002R as your center piece of your studio. There are lost of people making good music on 002R?s, and devices like this are really changing the industry (thank goodness). Sure it is not going to sound like a $1000.00 a day studio, but I believe the freedom you have more than makes up for that.
