The DigiTech HardWire CM-2 is a tube overdrive pedal that has what you're looking for, whether you need a little gain in front of your clean combo or just some boost into your distorted tube head. The CM-2 pedal's Classic/Modified option switches between classic overdrive circuitry for a smooth overdriven tube sound to a fatter, hot-rodded tone with extra gain without stepping on your signature tone. Low and High tone controls open up endless sonic possibilities.
The DigiTech HardWire pedal series represents DigiTech's commitment to quality and attention to subtle details. In addition to technical enhancements like true bypass and high voltage operation, all HardWire pedals feature rugged, all-metal construction; a wide, stage-stable footprint; durable, custom-machined metal knobs for a sure grip; and precision potentiometers that guarantee knob positions will stay put.
The rugged, durable construction of Extreme Performance Pedals is just the beginning. Inside each DigiTech HardWire pedal are technological features that serious players require—all updated and improved to their utmost capacity. True bypass preserves the purity of your original tone as signal passes through the pedal. High voltage operation further protects your sound by eliminating clipping and other signal degradation caused by power drain.
With the high-output pickups found on some electric guitars, it's not unusual to hear clipping when playing through an effects pedal. This occurs when the voltage range produced by a guitar's pickup is greater than the operating voltage of the effects pedal—normally limited to the voltage supplied by the effect's battery or power supply. HardWire pedals incorporate circuitry that increases the operating voltage headroom above that of the typical pedal. As such, HardWire pedals benefit a wider range of guitars and are also at home in an amplifier's effects loop.
HardWire Pedals include the following stage accessories:
Stomplock™ knob guard locks your tone in place and prevent tampering or accidental knob adjustments onstage
Pedal Switch Glow Sticker helps you locate the pedal in adverse stage lighting
Custom-cut Hook and Loop Pedalboard Pad to attach and lock your pedals to your pedalboard

Get one of these while they last, as the price may be considerably cheaper than advertised & GC may not be carrying them much longer. I bought one used for about $40.00. I already owned a modded Ibanez Tube Screamer (which I still love for its rich tones & angry grit), but was interested in getting an overdrive that was more transparent and could act as a clean boost, which the Tube Screamer cannot do. If you're searching for the same kind of thing, you cannot do better than the CM-2, AT ANY PRICE. On the level knob, unity gain is about 9:00, and this knob alone acts as a booster that really enhances harmonic overtones, even with the gain knob all the way off, especially nice with single coil or, as in my case, P90 pickups. The low frequency knob adds tons of punch if you need it; it's a lot more powerful than most low tone boosts, which is great for enhancing the sound of my Vox amp. The gain knob is very gradual in its intensity, especially with the toggle switch on "Classic". Personally I'm not a fan of the "Modified" setting: I think it's a bit harsh & not as smooth as I like in an overdrive, but it does offer more gain if that's what you want. This is the cheapest & one of the best overdrive pedals I've seen, & it's a clean linear, treble or bass boost to boot. Great sound!
This overdrive sounds and feels much like an extra channel on my amps. This pedal does for me what the OCD could not do. It will push a dirty tube amp or be a great gain tone. When it is cranked up on the Modified voice it produces a plexi like crunch. This is a quality pedal.
I've tried numerous overdrive/distortion pedals and none matched this baby! Boss overdrive/distortion/super overdrive/ blues driver, Vox Satchurator and many others but this one has all of them in it and even more! the most versatile stompbox ive ever seen. it's range of overdrive encapsulates all the mentioned boss pedals and the equalizer knobs give u an unlimited range of sounds. it also gives me the possibility to manuver with volume and tone knobs on my guitar since its sensible to any changes u make on ur ax.and the classic/modified switch makes it even more versatile giving u and almost Distortion-like sound. its also amazing when used as a booster for ur amp. it gives me all i need and its perfect if u dig the same stuff as i do; Jazz,Blues,Rock and a little metal. just get it man it worths every penny!
I just bought this pedal a few days ago along with the hardwire delay to take advantage of the free tuner deal, and I am pretty happy with my purchase. It has solid construction, and is a bit bigger than a typical Boss pedal. The High and Low knobs work both to cut and boost, and I keep both of mine right around 1 or 2 o'clock for a punchy classic rock sound on the modified setting. At Guitar Center I played this compared to the Valve Overdrive through a Bugera V22 back to back. For 70s classic rock and versatility through a tube amp this one is the way to go. The Valve Distortion might might lend itself to classic rock as well, but in my opinion there is not as much versatility even though there is more gain available. You can get a ton of singing distortion with this pedal driving a tube amp. On the other hand, through my rinky dink solid state practice amp at home, it didn't perform quite as well. The Valve Distortion may sound better for that kind of use, but I plan on purchasing a tube combo in the future so I am not dissapointed. I give this pedal 5 stars for a combination of versatility and value in a unique sounding stompbox.
This pedal basically kills all others. its definitely worth its price. You can get exactly the tone you want by using the metal knobs that click in every position. The Hardwire Cm-2 is also probably the most durable pedal ive ever used. It has stayed strong, despite all the times ive dropped and stepped hard on it. If you want a versatile pedal that can get you from blues so hardcore rock, this one is for you.
Great pedal for beginner, intermediate, and expert players. Definitely surpasses other digitech products. I was at first a little skepticle of getting a Digitech product. Bought it, loved ti from then on. Great improvement from the Boss DS-1 Distortion Pedal.
I run this bad boy with my new ibanez tube king-and they make a great pair-the low end button comes in handy-the overdrive can get realy "overdriven"-it's great-makes my pinches squal for days! which means a snap load of sustain.
I bought this pedal hoping digitech had not given us another series of trash pedals. I gotta say I was not disappointed. This pedal really delivers. Awesome sound and great tone. Even my wife liked it and we all know how hard women are to please. I definitely recommend it to everyone with any style of music.
The perfect tube overdrive ive ever owned.I originally purchased it to boost my Marshall but it sounds way better than my amps gain channel so i'm using it as a distortion pedal, yes it sounds that good, and I play metal! I really like the "clicking" knobs and the rubber boot they provided so you can cover your knobs to protect your settings while "stomping". Another feature I simply adore is the classic/modified toggle switch. Its like having 2 pedals in one! I put the low on 6 the high on 3 the gain on max and the toggle switch on modified and I can mimic machinehead and killswitch engage type stuff. Not generic or nasally sounding like other "green" pedals I own. Oh yea its all metal and true bypass! 5 stars*****
This is an amazing pedal! True analog bypass, killer sounding with some nice features. Perfect for tube amps. It's also built like a tank. Digitech outdid themselves :) Buy one! I'll be purchasing more hardwire pedals!
