Product Information

Smarter than the average vocal processor.

DigiTech Vocalist Live 4 is a harmony processor that features an onboard mixer and footswitches for easy use by singing guitarists. Vocalist Live 4 also features breakthrough musIQ technology to make it more intelligent. A surprising number of songs fool other harmony pedals because these songs just don't work with a single key/scale setting. In fact, any song that has the same note sung over 2 different chords (for example, a C sung in the melody over a C maj / F maj chord sequence) is going to confound conventional harmonizing devices.

Vocalist Live 4's musIQ technology allows it to directly analyze the output of any electric or pre-amplified acoustic guitar (no special MIDI guitars or hex-outputs needed). Then it generates the correct vocal harmony. For example, if you're singing an A over the chords that are generally found in the key of G, Vocalist will harmonize with a C. But, if you then play an A major, Vocalist will shift to the C# because like any good harmony singer, it listens to the guitar!

With musIQ, forget about the technology-just sing and play! Skip complicated programming and having to analyze each song chord-by-chord; just
1. Plug in your microphone and guitar;
2. Pick a 3rd or 5th-above or below harmony preset;
3. Sing and play — when you want harmony, just step on the footswitch!

Patent-pending musIQ technology combines new note detection algorithms with state-of-the-art harmony generation. The Note Detection section analyzes complex guitar waveforms and determines which notes in each chord are critical to accurate harmony. This information is then fed to an advanced harmony engine that creates harmonies consistent with both the singer's melody and the underlying guitar accompaniment.

This totally new, musically-intelligent hybrid of traditional chordal and scalic harmony modes means that Vocalist Live 4 musIQ harmonies stay true to not only the overall key and song scale, but also localized variations due to chords that aren't part of the global key. You've never heard anything like it!

NEW REVIEW - I recommend this product

The harmonies are great and realistic. The effects are some of the best i've heard. I like the way you can combine both or just press a foot switch and turn on or off one or both of them. If I had to give it a criticism, it would be that I wish the vocal and guitar channels were separate. The way it's configured is both voice and guitar come out the same output. It would be nice to use harmonies on vocals through the PA and effects on the guitar through the guitar amp. Other than that, if you are considering this product, I don't think you can go wrong with it. I am very pleased with mine.

NEW REVIEW - Won't Perform without it.

I have been using the Vocalist live 4 for a little over a year now. I will not sing without it. The harmonies are very good and tight. The combinations are versatile and fit into just about any category I could think of. If you play the right chords and can carry a tune in a bucket this unit will make you sound great. For a soloist it is like having a background group you never have to feed. Just make sure and turn it off before talking, that is a bit strange if you don't. The footswitch operation makes it easy to do vocal arrangements on the fly. I love this piece of equipment.

Sweet Piece

WOW, I purchased Vocalist live 4 about 1 month ago. I am very impressed with the sound it produces. It makes my vocals sound studio quality and even makes my guitar sound great. Nice variety of presets and fairly simple to operate. Was set up and using in 15 minutes. Only took me a couple hours to really know what I was doing. Harmonies are great and pitch correction really does work if needed. Worth the money even without the AKG D5 mike, great sounding and really reduces feed back. My muscian friends are all drooling. Can’t think of any criticism. Highly recommend to singer/guitar player

Great gear for solo act!

I just bought this unit and was pretty skeptical about it at first. But after looking at all the reviews from You Tube and reading the reviews here and elsewhere I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet. I've been a solo act for years and have always tried to stay "raw" so to speak. However after purchasing this unit I was floored! Right out of the box it was so easy to set up and get to playing. I haven't even had time to tweak anything on it and it simply blows me away! The sound is so realistic and I can't wait to use it in my next gig. If you fly solo like I do you really need to check this thing out. It could be the co-pilot you're looking for. + you don't have to pay this guy but once!

Great for the gigging guitarist

I gig with this and it's very good. I play a wide variety of styles but am currenbtly using it in a trio playing Cream numbers. Typically the 3rd above harmony is the main one used in this context but I've also used it in Beatles and Eagles songs too and found the harmonies great. As the other guys don't sing, it really adds a touch of class to be able to add the harmonies at the push of the button, though of course work-load goes up with all the pedal dancing to switch it in and out. I've found it tracks impecably and the harmonies are pretty convincing. It stores a few seconds of memory so even if you bum a chord it isn't thrown off key. For the extra money I'd recommend the Vocalist 4 because the guitar effects are handy, particularly in an acoustic solo performance and the ability to step through user patches is great. I can't really fault this box - it's the next best thing to having real harmonies!
