Full-spectrum distortion and true bypass.

The DigiTech SC-2 HardWire valve distortion pedal captures the full spectrum from today to yesterday: from classic rock crunch to modern high-gain sounds, and all the flavors in between. Crunch/Saturated mode switch, level, gain and low and high tone controls allow you to use the SC-2 pedal to further tailor your sound.

The DigiTech HardWire pedal series represents DigiTech's commitment to quality and attention to subtle details. In addition to technical enhancements like true bypass and high voltage operation, all HardWire pedals feature rugged, all-metal construction, a wide, stage-stable footprint, durable, custom-machined metal knobs for a sure grip, and precision potentiometers that guarantee knob positions will stay intact.

The rugged, durable construction of Extreme Performance Pedals is just the beginning. Inside each HardWire pedal are technological features that serious players require—all updated and improved to their utmost capacity. True bypass preserves the purity of your original tone as signal passes through the pedal, and high voltage operation further protects your sound by eliminating clipping and other signal degradation caused by power drain.

With the high-output pickups found on some electric guitars, it's not unusual to hear clipping when playing through an effects pedal. This occurs when the voltage range produced by a guitar's pickup is greater than the operating voltage of the effects pedal—normally limited to the voltage supplied by the effect's battery or power supply. HardWire pedals incorporate circuitry that increases the operating voltage headroom above that of the typical pedal. As such, HardWire pedals benefit a wider range of guitars and are also at home in an amplifier's effects loop.

HardWire Pedals include the following stage accessories:
Stomplock™ knob guard locks your tone in place and prevent tampering or accidental knob adjustments onstage
Pedal Switch Glow Sticker helps you locate the pedal in adverse stage lighting
Custom-cut Hook and Loop Pedalboard Pad to attach and lock your pedals to your pedalboard

  • Hardwire SC-2 Valve Distortion

As reviewed by Veloy on 10/6/2008

Taking a liking to DigiTech pedals really pays off when a rockin' distortion box like this comes along. Being an owner of the Hot Head, I decided to upgrade to the SC-2, and I'm impressed. High-voltage output goes great with my Les Paul's humbuckers, the lighter 'Crunch' setting is great for softer practice and the 'Saturated' setting is perfect for going gain-insane. The pedal itself is slightly larger than DigiTech's previous distortion/X-series pedals, it's got a blue LED brighter than a mother, and the tone is to die for. The SC-2's superior tone goes great with my Crybaby (535Q) wah, and improved locking knobs make it easier to dial in the sweet settings that make your amp sing. Handy, pedalboard-specific features, like a pedalboard pad, footswitch glow sticker and a setting-saving Stomplock add to the already spectacular pedal. This pedal at max gain is less insane than the Hot Head, but holds it's own with quality tone and plenty of dirt. Play it, own it, love it.

  • The tone I was looking for

As reviewed by DREW78 on 4/3/2009

The Hardwire SC-2 is awesome. I use this pedal in front of my stock Fender Blues Deluxe. I wanted a pedal that would give me more gain when needed, but not too much (no harsh metal gainy, sounds), as I play mostly blues - hard/classic rock. This pedal produces a very smooth, overdrive (gain below half) in front of the clean amp. With gain level increased above half (about 3/4) you get nice thick tone, zz top-like, out of my tele neck pick-up. The tone is very pronounced and clear. Handles humbuckers nicely too! You can really use your guitar volume and tone controls to shape with this pedal. Overall very versatile, usable tone that is perfect with a tube amp. It's not too bad on batteries(unplug your cables). This thing is one of the best built pedals i've seen! And it's Made in the USA! Plus you get a knob cover so you don't move your settings (nice idea), and a cool blue light. Love it!!

  • Tank Pedal

As reviewed by Phillip Shull on 3/1/2010

Thank God for true bypass! I bought a Gibson Les Paul Classic in Feb. 2009 and wanted to get a good distortion pedal to get things started. Unfortunately, I got a Boss DS-1. Don't get me wrong, the DS-1 is a great pedal but I purchased it before I learned about the tonal differences of true bypass versus regular digital bypass. Much to my dismay, I discovered the the DS-1 greatly, to me at least, changed my LP's tone. This wouldn't do, since I bought the Gibson LP Classic for it's tone. I want a beefy sounding guitar that sings both while distorted and while in bypass. Well, I soon discovered that true bypass is the way to go to avoid tone sucking. Man, am I glad I found the Digitech Hardwire series. This pedal is amazing so far. To start things off, it is eye catching. The outer cassing is sleek and stylish and just begs you to play through it. It is also built like a tank and will hold up to heavy usage. This Valve distortion does not tone suck like many of the digital pedals out there and it is also much more versatal. I especially love the metal knobs and the toggle between crunch and saturated tones. I am able to dial in the specific sound that I want using the tone knobs and get the amount of distortion I want at any volume. This pedal provides much more defined low and mid ranges than many other pedals I have tried. I was even impressed with the packaging and little extras (i.e. a rubber knob cover to keep the settings from getting mashed around while in heavy use, and a hook and groove piece to stick it to a pedal board). The Digitech Hardwire Valve Distortion is a great pedal for someone who is looking to maintain a great tone when the pedal is screaming or when it is in bypass. Great work Digitech, you have made a great a pedal here.
