  • Amazing!!

As reviewed by Andrew on 3/23/2011

The Digitech BP355 is truly amazing. The versatility on this unit blows me away. I bought mainly because it had a looper. The looper alone is worth the money. It does give you 20 seconds of looping but you can do multiple overdubs. Neat practice tool. The effects are very good quality. The synth sounds are decent. The drum patterns are another great practice tool. Overall, this is a great unit. Very durable.

  • Sounds great, easy to use, lots of good features!

I'm fairly picky about gear, but I really love this multi-effects bass pedal from Digitech. If you can read instructions and you have 15 minutes to spare, then you can easily learn how to tweak this thing to your liking. Some of the presets are pretty good and some are awful. The key to getting just the sounds that you want is to dial in a couple of vital things: amplifier / cabinet setting and EQ. The amplifier / cabinet selections make big differences in the sound. Some of them overdrive very easily when you dig in to the strings and are great for rock and metal. Others are quite clean and make great choices for jazz, blues, etc. As far as the EQ goes, I'm telling you right now that many of the presets need a serious boost in the bass. Some of them had the eq bass setting defaulted between 2-4 on a (-10)--0--(+10) scale. I found a value of 7-8 on the bass EQ to be sufficient for most of these presets that needed fixing. This kept the bottom end from vanishing, especially when using some of the distortion/overdrive presets. The effects themselves can use a tweaking also sometimes like the amount of gain in a distortion effect or the rate of a flanger effect. My favorite things about this pedal? Distortion effects, delay effects, flanger effects, funky envelope filter effects, decent quality drum tracks, looper, tuner, expression pedal, very solid construction, the price and how cool is it that you can plug in the headphones and play without running your bass through an amp.

I had heard so much about how great this pedal was and sounded. I bought it, took it home, read the manual, played through the presets, listened to the effects, used the looper, drum machine, shut it off, put it back in the box, and returned it the next day for a refund. This pedal is not for the "plug and play" bass player, it is for someone with a LOT of TIME on their hands to FIND, TWEAK, SAVE and USE the sounds in it. KEEP IT SIMPLE, MAKE IT EASY TO USE, AND PUT IN USEFUL SOUNDS!!! Every patch was like going from one sound into the next. They just got worse as I went through each unuseable sound. Digitech has never been a favorite for effects. If you want to spend HOURS setting this thing up, go for it. If you're looking for a "plug and play effects pedal", THIS IS NOT FOR YOU.
