The Assassin creates something new, a high gain, Class A, gigable and affordable amp suitable for nearly any situation. The Assassin features a full set of tone controls along with a Gain Mode switch allowing for traditional or diode-clipping gain style. Hi everyone! This amp is a great one - starting from build quality (thick wood with quality tolex, handbuilt eyelet board), full tube cascade (3x12ax7, 2xel84) - ending up with superior sound without extra features, which in most cases confuse musicians. Before having this one, I've tried a plenty of other small-wattage amps like orange tiny terror, orange dark terror, orange or15h, engl gigmaster 15h, engl ironball, hughes and kettner tubemeiter 18, 36, grandmeister 36, blackstar ht-5, randall rd5h diavlo can honestly say, that for the money it is the best possible choice. Yes, it is a single channel amp, but it does its job well. Some words about real wattage - it is claimed as 18w, and even on manufacturer website indicates as 26 - it has more than that. Moreover, you can hook it up with 2 4x12 cabinets easily, it will punch them with no hiss. Tried to play in store on marshall 1960 straight cab with vintage 30's - perfect sound, at home using b52 stealth 2x12 cab with vintage 30's - the same perfect sound. Before buing it tried to find information about this amp, a lot of people were complaining about lacking gain - don't listen to it - it has more than enough of gain to play any kind of metal. Just don't forget to turn on volume knob more and you will get what I'm saying. Speaking of clean sound - roll back as much as possible gain knob - and you will have great sparkling clean, which could be reshaped to more darker/colder sounding by playing with presence knob. Several words about gain mode switch - it gives you an option to use full-tube driven gain or soft diode clipping gain, which slightly drop down your volume and will give you great amount of high gain for low volume playing. As you can see, this amp has plenty of controls, all of them are pretty usable and resourceful. In the end, this amp is a true indicator of your guitar quality - playing top quality, beautiful sounding guitar you will end up with best sound experience with it. It is a no-brainer buy. Have a great one!
