Overview

The difference between a vintage Strat bridge pickup sound and a classic Broadcaster or Tele tone is mostly a matter of attack and definition - the Strat stings and screams, while the Tele punches and sings. DiMarzio thought it would be neat to have a Strat pickup that does both, and this is it. The punch comes from the bottom-loaded Power Plate, the sting from custom coil-winding and the Blue Velvet magnet stagger, and a unique mid-range "growl" that's a result of a hand-calibrated magnet structure. Try a Red Velvet bridge pickup with a pair of Blue Velvet pickups for a sound that's both classic and new.

Recommended for all positions.

Tech Talk: One of the obvious effects of mounting a plate on the bottom of a pickup is to boost the magnetic field. DiMarzio wanted the bigger sound that the plate provides, but they didn't want any increased magnet-pull, so they calibrate the magnetic field of every Red Velvet after it's assembled. The Red Velvet was originally designed for the bridge position, but it will also work well in the neck and middle, where it can be combined with a bridge humbucker like the Air Classic.

Comments about DiMarzio Red Velvet Pickup:

DiMarzio's descriptions are usually pretty accurate, as it was for this pickup. I have a HSS Strat and wanted a little more output in the middle position. This pickup did the trick.

Aside from the product, I was disappointed with the processing and shipping. Overall it took 13 days to arrive and with an escalation to customer service. These products are available from many sources and I will go elsewhere next time.

          great sound

Comments about DiMarzio Red Velvet Pickup:

I have been wanting to get a Tele but I have never liked their necks. I played a cheap Ibanez Gio in a used instrument shop and fell in love with the neck. I got it with the intentions of putting good pickups in it. Well my plan worked. I put this one at the neck and a PAF in the bridge position and wired it to split the coil. The guitar sounds great.

          chunky monkey

Comments about DiMarzio Red Velvet Pickup:

it's a strat thang. the bridge pu never matches the neck and middle in output. so I e-mail the dimarzio tech for advice and he hits me back- red velvet. this pu did the job. plenty loud but not excessive or distorted. it's tele-like, muscular and chunky but will also sting you like a strat. and it will flat out light up a marshall 1/2 stack. love it.

          Very Nice Pickup

I bought this pick up two weeks ago and I have fallen in love with my guitar all over agin it has the very best tone that I gotten from my start since ive owned it and I have been playing for 15 yrs and have been through many guitars and had different pickupds in each of them and these have to be the best. I have the noiseless pickups and the tone from them are not as good but still great. I recoomend these pickups to anyone who loves the blues.

Just what you need to wake up your strat

          By 80's Rule!

Comments about DiMarzio Red Velvet Pickup:

I have a mid 80's Aria Pro and the stock pickups were o.k. but I just wanted more umph. I decided to give these a try in the bridge position to try it out and if I liked then I would go from there. I almost bought the Seymour SSL5 because i've used those for years but tryed this instead. It is definelty better than stock and had good pick attack sound. It plays along with you. Not quite as beefy as the SSL-5 custom staggered but very nice sound. Not an extreme output either 8.5K but a very good pickup. I'm probably going to move this to the neck position though and add a Antiquity Texas Hot in the bridge and an Antiquity Surf rwrp in the middle.
