Overview

DiMarzio Instrument Cables are top rated by Guitar Player Magazine. They easily passed Guitar Player's "Zildjian cymbal guillotine test" and "jump rope test" of 9/97, demonstrating how well-built and reliable they are in real world conditions. In order to carry the DiMarzio name, they have to sound great too. Guitar Player describes them as "quiet and transparent with a clear balance from lows to highs." They sonically outperform cables costing many times their price. They are noise-free when they are moved and are 100% shielded with a combination braided shield and carbon jacket. They are low capacitance, measured by Guitar Player at only 620pf for the 18-foot model. They come with Switchcraft connectors to ensure reliability and have a lifetime warranty.

For anyone not interested in paying the extra money for the Monster Cables this is the one for you. My first cable was a Monster 5 ft and I got this one in a 6 ft a short time after that. Slightlty larger and sounds just as good. My only complaint is the the tips are a tad bit easy to unscrew but I have still never had an issue with it. I can only see my self buying DiMarizio's in the future. One suggestion: Don't Cheap Out!! Get at least the 10ft one because you WILL want it. Even if your just an at home musician, it comes in very handy.

I have two of these, when I bought them in a local store, they seemed to be a great deal, great quality cable for a cheap price. And this is definitely the big advantage of these cables: they are not very expensive.

As for quality, my opinion is somewhat mixed...

The cable itself seems to be of great quality. It is quite thick and don't see it breaking anytime soon. I'm not a cable expert, but it seems properly shielded, I didn't noticed any noise made by thode cables. Not complaint about it so far.

However, I am concerned about the jacks: they always get unscrewed due to its design, if your cable get a little twisted while playing (which happens quite often in my case, I don't stand still when I play...), chances are the jacks will unscrew... Which will sometime cause some subtle crackle sounds to be heard in the amp as you move... Basically, I need to unplug the cable and screw it back jack every 20-30 minutes or so...Not great.

The rubber coating over the jack that goes a few inches over the cable broke on my main cable... The cable itself is still working fine but I had to tape it so it doesn't bend too much near the jack, it looks really cheap...

When the jacks are un unscrewed completely, the solder joint quality is not quite good. Not horrible, but they could've been cleaner... I have little experience in soldering(modified my Wah and made a switch strip pedal from scratch) and I make better solder joints..

The gold plated contacts thing is just a gimmick IMO. It wears off rather quickly after repeatedly plugging and unplugging the cable (I'm not lucky I guess, I have active pickups so I need to unplug the cables off my guitar when not playing...). My other cables, which use very good Neutrik connectors are not gold plated and they are definitely much better than these cables.

Overall, if you're short on money, or if you need a cable to plug from your pedalboard to your amp(or other uses where the cable doe not move a lot), it might be worth giving it a try, given the cheap price, otherwise I'd use other cables. As I said, the cables itselfs are fine, but the jacks are a real let down for me.

          Comments about DiMarzio Instrument Cable:

I was looking for a solid, reliable cable to replace one that I've been using for probably thirty years, which finally developed a short. I didn't want to pay a small fortune. The DiMarzio fit the bill perfectly. It's reasonably priced. It's manufactured in the USA. It's well-made using good components. It sounds and looks good. It's comfortable to use, not too thin or too thick. It doesn't seem to tangle. It does it's job without any fanfare. What more do you need? The only question that I can't answer is how long it will last. Nothing so far indicates that it will fail; everything seems durable. If, by chance, it does, the cable is backed by a lifetime warranty. I did pay attention to capacitance in selecting a cable. At 33.27 pF/ft., the DiMarzio has a capacitance that is slightly higher than other cables. This hit the sweet spot for me, providing warmth without sacrificing clarity. Unless the cable fails or falls apart, I will certainly buy another DiMarzio. They work for me.

I've been using these cables for years, they are only a bit more expensive than the cheap stuff and they are bullet proof.

These cables are tough, sound great, and basically last forever (lifetime warranty), and when I say tough I mean these things are tough.

I do consider these to be the best cables I've ever used in nearly 40 years.
