Overview

This is the model originally designed for the neck position of the Ibanez Universe. The neck position needs to be warm, but not too fat (nobody wants the low "B" sounding like a tuba, right?), so DiMarzio scooped out some of the mids to brighten the low notes and kept the power down to a reasonable level to avoid unnecessary sludge. You can get everything from a good jazz sound with a clean amp to a wall-of-sound with heavy overdrive. Many players have discovered this is also a very good bridge pickup when playing with a serious amount of distortion--power chords retain more openness, and single notes have a lot of clarity.

Recommended For: All positions

Tech Talk: The trend of the last several years has been to play 7-strings with massive overdrive. Taking the extreme low end of the seventh string into account, DiMarzio has been recommending the Blaze neck model for the bridge position as well, where the lower output and tighter lows create better chord definition. The latest 7-strings Ibanez has built for Korn have been equipped this way.

Clarity and fantastic Midrange

By galen rosson

Comments about DiMarzio DP700 Blaze 7-String Neck Pickup:

I picked up a Jackson SJ22 Dinky 7 String and changed out both my pickups. The bridge variant of this pickup cleaned up my lows perfectly and serves my needs when I'm chopping it up. This neck pickup cleans up my lows as well but not as much bite as the bridge version on distortion. I find its midrange action to be the best. My clean mids and highs ring out very clear and precise. Paired with the bridge variant you cannot get any better on a 7 string without busting your budget in my opinion. It can and will reach tones from many famous bands with ease, and it will also punch out plenty of power like its counterpart.

Clear and clean

Comments about DiMarzio DP700 Blaze 7-String Neck Pickup:

I love how these pickups sound. I purchased them after doing alot of research and listening to a few guitars with these installed. The pickups that where in my Jackson SJ22 Dinky where not covering my needs on the low end, so I ordered these up and had them swapped into it. These made a HUGE world of difference right from the get go. Where my chords on the extreme lows where muddy, it is all clear but still low. PERFECT fit for my guitar. It's bridge version should naturally be also used with this for extreme satisfactory results.

Surprisingly Round Sounding

Comments about DiMarzio DP700 Blaze 7-String Neck Pickup:

I added this pickup to my ARZ307 with the hope of getting a better clean tone. I had already added the bridge blaze and like it, but it was not a huge change from the stock Axis pickup. The bridge Blaze is a different story. Compared to the Axis Neck pickup, its way brighter and more bell like, which is what i was looking for. When i first fired up the amp, i was surprised to hear a more strat like clean tone coming from my ibanez seven string. Conversely, its more useable for distorted rhythm playing than my the Axis pickup. Very satisfied with this pickup and with the blaze bridge I feel i have a very versatile guitar at this point that sounds great! nice chug and clarity in the bridge, and bell like cleans in the neck. I also dig the look - flat black with chrome posts. I give it a 9 as theres always something better out there - but i wont need to look for awhile with this pickup.

no complaints for quality. came shipped with all the necessary hardware and then some. even included an allen wrench for the posts. Wiring was shielded and sturdy, with plenty of length. The sound quality is great - more on that later. No feedback issues,
I'm happy with the price I paid for this pickup. the overall sound and quality can match other more expensive pickups - at this point its about preference.

Modern day classic

Comments about DiMarzio DP700 Blaze 7-String Neck Pickup:

This is the best 7 string neck pickup with ease IMO. You can hear an excellent demonstration of it on Vai's "For the Love of God", which also demos the Blaze Bridge. The neck pup is very smooth and has a huge sonic signature. I have played some neck pups that are overly focused in one frequency range, the Blaze is broad and clear. Very thick and rich yet clean for sweeps and fast playing.

It Bites and doesn't let go!!

By Bertallica

Comments about DiMarzio DP700 Blaze 7-String Neck Pickup:

I installed the Blaze on my Ibanez RG7621's bridge position. Great heavy crunchy tones and clean tones, harmonics jump put and are easy to get. This pickup is one element for obtaining long sustain & will bring it up to at least above average. When I 1st got it I did have one problem: it would give feedback like crazy, so I call Dimarzio up and they had me ship it to them & in 2 weeks I got the pick up back & it's been great ever since.
