Overview

DiMarzio heard about Paul Gilbert in the 1980s. Billy Sheehan told them about an amazing 18-year-old who had recently arrived in California and had blown everyone away with his musicianship, speed, and awesome technical ability in Racer X. DiMarzio immediately asked Paul to become a DiMarzio endorser. Recently, Paul has been heavily into DiMarzio's Area pickups. He's also been playing a lot of Racer X-style instrumentals, so the time was right for signature Paul Gilbert single-coil sized DiMarzio pickups. The outcome of their teamwork are the new Injector Neck and Bridge Model pickups. Paul loves the results, and you can hear them on his latest CD, "Fuzz Universe".

The Paul Gilbert Injector Bridge Model is one of DiMarzio's hottest hum-canceling models (185mV output) with six individual Alnico magnets. The DP423 sound is not like a vintage single-coil - highs are bright but not glassy, and lows are solid and defined. The Injector Bridge pickup was designed to work equally well with rapid single-note arpeggios and power chords without becoming muddy or compressed. It has about 40% less magnet-pull than standard single-coils, and this is essential for the superior speed and dynamic range with which this pickup responds to pick attack.

Paul's setup on the guitar he played on Fuzz Universe was Injector Neck Model in the neck, Area 67 in the middle, and Injector Bridge Model in the bridge. The Injector is a lot louder and warmer than the Area 67 but the combination produces varied tonal colors in the 2 and 4 positions, with the Area 67 alone providing vintage tone and the Injector Neck and Bridge for heavier sounds.

Great strat replacement.

By

from Franklinville, NC

Comments about DiMarzio DP423 Paul Gilbert Injector Bridge Pickup:

I just installed this pup in my Fender Mex. Standard maple strat and couldn't be happier. It has one of the fattest sounds of a stacked single-coil I've heard and it keeps the classic strat look as well. It's extremely articulate on a dist. channel and cleans up nice. Though I did rewire the tone pot to include the bridge just to tame it a bit (it's only 1 more wire to add). Overall, with my Area 58's in the neck and middle, it's the most versatile guitar I own. Maybe not the perfect set of pu's but it works for me. Maybe an Area 67 in the middle like what comes with the pre-wired set might be better, but I'm lovin' my Injector.

Big thick sound

By

from Knoxville, TN

Comments about DiMarzio DP423 Paul Gilbert Injector Bridge Pickup:

This pickup sounds like a humbucker, it's got a big low end and plenty of mid, with enough treble to give it bite. It really sounds great, and I LOVE IT.
