Overview

DiMarzio believes the Area '58 and Area '61 are a major step forward in the performance of hum cancelling Strat replacement pickups. The technology that went into the DP417 models has allowed them to make a similar advance with Telecaster guitar pickups. The Area T neck model has the combination of clarity and warmth that Telecaster players have always sought.

The DP417 pickup is recommended for the neck.

Tech Talk: The contrast between a warm neck pickup tone and a biting bridge pickup sound is a Tele hallmark, but it's hard to achieve if the neck pickup is muddy. The Area T neck model has a very smooth tone, but its ability to remain clear even with heavy overdrive is an essential quality of Area design. The Area T pickup was designed to work with 250K controls, but treble response and output can be increased by using 500K volume and tone controls or tweaked further with a 250K volume and the EP1202 1 Megohm tone control.

Comments about DiMarzio DP417 Area T Tele Neck Pickup:

Trying to find a good noiseless single coil solution because of noisy home electronic interference. Tried others but did not like them. Read all kinds of reviews on these. I had a set of Lace for a strat that were DOA so wasn't going that route. Ordered this neck pickup and the bridge Air Tele. Bridge was fine, went right in but the neck screws were too long and would not allow the pickguard to mount flush. Tried to find them locally, but they are fatter #4 with fine threads so almost impossible. Called them. No one cared. Called again. Got a CSR airhead. Left message for tech support. Finally got in touch with a CSR that seems concerned. She had tech send me two screws that were 3/4" by nipping off the ends and sanding the tips. One of them was jacked up and stripped out the nylon base plate on the pickup. Called them and asked them to send me a pickup and new screws. Mind you this guitar is a 2012 Fender American Standard Telecaster! Shouldn't your Telecaster Replacement pickup fit in an American Standard Telecaster without modifying your Tele? I cold drill deeper holes, which I eventually did but since it was stripped out, it didn't matter. Crazy stupid experience. That being said, the bridge sounds freakin' amazing. I hope that this can be taken care of. I've had my Tele in pieces for the past two weeks trying to get this done. Also be aware that the instructions are poor and they have an addendum included with wiring updates. Can't you guys get it together? Your product is nice. Others have noted the same issue I've found of late.

Comments about DiMarzio DP417 Area T Tele Neck Pickup:

I bought a pair of Area-T's for my MIM Tele. I like the tone and the fact that the guitar is now quiet! Highly recommended!

Better than Lollars

By Marr

Comments about DiMarzio DP417 Area T Tele Neck Pickup:

These are by far the best hum-canceling pickups for the Tele. IF you absolutely MUST play without the hum (live performance, practice with headphones) then these are a no-brainer. However, I'd also put these up against many of the very best pickups for the Tele, hum or no hum. They have the warmth of the Lollar pickup with a truer Tele tone.
