Overview

DiMarzio modeled their Area '58 after one of the most celebrated Strat pickups from 1958, with two major differences. The Area '58 has way less magnet pull, and virtually no hum. It's recommended for neck and middle, and can also be used in the bridge position.

A great pickup is clear and bright, but not thin-sounding. A great one makes the sound jump out of the amp when you pick hard and drop way down when you play softly, and the tone varies when the string is picked at different spots. DiMarzio designed the Area '58 to fit this profile exactly.

Tech Talk: The Area '58 has obvious similarities to the Virtual Vintage 2.1 it replaces, but there are several non-visible performance factors that have changed. Dynamic range and string definition are greatly increased, leading to improvements in both clean chord-playing and overdriven soloing. The '58 is very sensitive to small height adjustment differences: close to the strings produces a fatter, slightly compressed blues tone and further away yields crystal clean sounds. The final improvement is in noise reduction. All of the Virtual Vintage pickups have better hum cancellation than full-size humbuckers. The Area '58 and Area '61 are even quieter.

      The Coils Are Alive.

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

I have a guitar I made with an area 58, 67, and 61. Going - neck, middle, bridge... First of all, I LOVE all of these area pickups! They make the guitar come alive! Great dynamic response from quiet picking to hard rocking chugs. Harmonically, they have more to offer than the stock pups of an American Standard Strat I used to play... I won't play that guitar any time soon! Get these... Now...

Great pickup for vintage Strat tone

      By

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

The Area 58 pickup is very chimey and dynamic sounding and sounds great for both rhythm and lead work. I tried many other brands before settling on this pickup. If you want Gilmour, SRV, or Jimi Hendrix tone this is the pickup for you. I'd recommend it in the neck and middle with an Area 61 in the bridge because it's a little hotter and takes distortion and overdrive well.

Vintage Strat tone with a little extra...

      By

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

If you want a pickup with a vintage Strat tone that's a tad hotter than standard pickups that handles overdrive well then this is the pickup for you. I put this in the bridge position for lead playing and it has good sustain and warmth and handles distortion pedals well. I bought this pickup along with an Area 58 to replace an HS-3 and YJM pickup which sounded a tad thin in the mix for the type music I play. The Area 61 pickup would probably sound very good in the neck also and is an excellent choice for vintage Strat tone with a little more kick.

      Incredible Pickups

      By

      from Laguna Beach, CA

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

I replaced my stock single coils on my MusicMan Silhouette Special with the '58s and man, what a difference. The bridge was furnished with a Tone Zone humbucker, and that pretty much rounded out the perfect super-strat tone. I put my guitar up against the best Suhrs, Andersons and Fenders and it ate them all up. Super quiet, super glassy and extremely well defined - these pickups roll-off incredibly well and I'm going to buy a set for my new ESP Vintage Plus. I recommend them highly.

      cool pickup

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

I got this to complement my d-sonic and area '61. I put this in the middle position of my Ibanez. It has a very clean and bright sound. It picks up definitions in my pick attack very well. It has a very "Hendrix" sound to it. A nice pick up to complement another or to stand by itself.
