Overview

One thing has stayed consistent throughout John Petrucci's long and successful career: the DiMarzio pickups in his guitars. John has been pushing the envelope of progressive rock since the late eighties, and the DiMarzio Crunch Lab Bridge Pickup ensued from DiMarzio's most recent collaboration with John. Get the sound that the acclaimed Dream Theater guitarist has spent decades perfecting. He used this humbucker pickup throughout Dream Theater's tenth studio album, Black Clouds & Silver Linings. John swears this is the best live and studio sound he has ever heard, and the name says it all-"crunch" is what it's all about, with a big, tight sound that's neither muddy nor thin.

The DiMarzio DP228 guitar pickup is recommended for the bridge position.

Yeah!

By Hayden Clark

from Cedar City, UT

I got this put into my PRS SE Singlecut Tremolo yesterday. I went home, plugged the guitar into my POD HD 500, and spent the next hour with my mind blown. The humbucker sounds great in both series and parallel. Both coils sound great on their own as well. Check it out!

Great tone; great response

By PHIL FRITSCHLE

from Mesa, AZ

I just bought the Dimarzio DP228 Crunch Lab and it is a fantastic pick up! Thanks to John Petrucci and Dimarzio for your collaboration. A couple of years ago, I bought a Laguna (great guitar: locking tuners; Wilkinson trem; very responsive; comfortable to play; fast neck; overall, a great guitar); but the pickups were not loud enough for my style of music (progressive rock). Then came the Crunch Lab. What a difference!! PLENTY of output; yet very sweet when played with light pick attack; very responsive. I can go from soft arpeggiating to punchy rhythm without stepping on a pedal. The pick up has such a sweet voice. Then when I do stomp on a pedal for leads; the pickup just screams. I plan on installing this pick up on all my guitars!!!

Awesome Tone

By Tim

from des moines

Bought this pickup after watching youtube videos, and boy did I pick a great one! Solo's stand out, and rhythm is in your face or laid back and crunchy depending on your settings. I'm playing through a Boogie Mark IV and a 2x12 cab with a boss me70 and the tones you can get are amazing you just have to try it for yourself, imo-better than emg, duncan, etc.

DAAAANNNGGG!

By CPC_Guitar

from Indianapolis,IN

I ordered this as a christmas present for myself and it took a few weeks to get cause it was on back order but it was well worth the wait! I put this in my Ibanez rg and it SCREAMS! I literally have to turn my amp down when i switch guitars. This thinig has such a high output. As much as emg's I think, but its tons crisper and clearer.Emg's sound muffled(to me anyway) compared to this thing. It definitely the most versatile pick up i've ever used. It sounds awesome for metal riffing and soloing.Every note has definition. Then roll the volume knob back a little and you've got a perfect ZZ Top "La Grange" tone.It has an incredibly pure sounding jazz/clean tone too. My buddys ES-330 doesnt even come close to matching it! So no matter what style you play, Get this pickup!!! You'll be glad you did!

More Than Your Socks Will Be Knocked Off

By Connor S.

from CT

I got this humbucker put into my home built strat that used to be a SSS pickup style and the difference is incredible. Im not too familiar with JP and Dream Theater but you dont have to be to enjoy this pickup. Im a rhythm player so I dont do too much soloing but the crunch lab is defiantly the best for both worlds. It gives a huge boost for power chords and the crispness for soloing and then some. Defiantly a humbucker for anyone who plays a diverse range of rock.
