Overview

Since 2001, Andy Timmons has been playing a DiMarzio custom bridge humbucker that has only been available on his signature Ibanez guitar, and it has been his first-line pickup ever since. Described as a player's player, Andy Timmons is known for his great touch, phrasing, and tone. Naturally, his DiMarzio AT-1 guitar pickup is on par with his signature sound. Delivering the rich tonal characteristics of balance, warmth, and clarity, this DiMarzio pickup achieves its focused sound with the same patented technology as the PAF 36th Anniversary, but the sound is hotter-perfect for rock.

The DiMarzio AT-1 was originally designed for a 25" scale, mahogany-body guitar, but it adapts very well to other instruments. It has enough bass and mids to warm up brighter guitars, and enough clarity for 24" scale set-necks as well. The Andy Timmons DiMarzio humbucker is recommended for the bridge position.

Comments about DiMarzio DP224 AT1 Andy Timmons Humbucker Pickup:

This pickup sounds much like a single coil tonally, but has more output power to drive an amp into overdrive. Not too bright, but has amazing harmonic presence.
Pairs beautifully with alder and rosewood, and 500k volume. I'm using two tones both at 250k and dual .22 caps.

Comments about DiMarzio DP224 AT1 Andy Timmons Humbucker Pickup:

Great lead pick up in the bridge position. It has a well balanced tone to it. Nice mids and highs. Roll down the volume on the guitar and it cleans up. Crank up the volume on the guitar and goes into a beautiful overdriven tones. I"ve had this in my strat for months. I love it.

Comments about DiMarzio DP224 AT1 Andy Timmons Humbucker Pickup:

My PRS Mira MT bridge pickup was way, way too bright for my tastes. So I bought the AT-1 to warm up the tone. It worked extremely well, completely changed the tone of the guitar. It's no longer harsh and shrill sounding, now it's warmer and smoother and more in line with the tone I like. Highly recommended.

Comments about DiMarzio DP224 AT1 Andy Timmons Humbucker Pickup:

Installing an AT-1 as the bridge p'up gave an Epi Les Paul Custom a more distinctive voice, whether playing through an all-analog pedal rig and a Tweaker or into an all-digital multi-FX board. It pairs well with a PAF Joe in the neck position, and rhythm parts sound great in the middle/both switch position.

              Dimarzio, You're the best

Comments about DiMarzio DP224 AT1 Andy Timmons Humbucker Pickup:

Let me start by saying that every dimarzio I have used has been amazing in it's own way. My favorites before this were my Fred and Humbucker from hell, but once this was put into my Ibanez RG Custom, I quickly needed to make room for this GREAT pickup. To tell you guys the truth, I picked this pickup because I was low on cash and snagged it for $52, which was the cheapest I could find any dimarzio at the time. I matched it with an old IBZ/USA Dimarzio Neck pickup, and this pickup smokes! This will be my permanent guest in this guitar. I do not plan of switching back. This pickup is so warm and just overall great. It's just hot enough to play what I play, which is everything Rock/Metal/Jazz. I was so amazed with this product, I bought it again. Don't hesitate if you're thinking about getting this, Just save yourself time and buy it.

              smokes

Comments about DiMarzio DP224 AT1 Andy Timmons Humbucker Pickup:

Just installed one in the bridge of my 1974 Gibson Flying V and it simply smokes. I had a JB in there before and it was cool but this pickup sounds cooler. A tighter ballsy distortion but not too heavy and a very nice clean to complement the Air Norton I have in the neck position. Both are F spaced because I have a Kahler trem. I played a gig with this pickup for the first time tonight and I can't stop smiling. Try one, you'll be pleasantly surprised!!!!

              Great pickup!!!

              By Michael

Comments about DiMarzio DP224 AT1 Andy Timmons Humbucker Pickup:

I had another humbucker pickup in the bridge position of my strat but it sounded very sharp and had barely any mids. I replaced it with this one because Andy is my hero and I just got to hear it in person at his masterclass. So I have no reason not to get this thing. This thing is beautiful. It is very well balanced and has a strong mid range that doesn't get sharp on the higher notes so it doesn't hurt anybody's ears. It also sound very PAFish but hotter. Although I don't use much gain I still can if I want to.

              Great versatile pickup.

Comments about DiMarzio DP224 AT1 Andy Timmons Humbucker Pickup:

Fantastic sounding pickup! Has some characteristics of the infamous JB but IMO sounds better. 16.5k, has great sustain like the JB. The AT1 isn't as tight as the JB....maybe alittle over a hair but not much. Chords ring out nice and clear. Has very nice articulation when playing solos. Full bass and mids to stand out the mix. HIghs are never harsh, quite sweet and mellow. This pickup does everything well and it rocks!
