Overview

It sounds like a vintage humbucker and will drop right into your Stratocaster. The Pro Track has enough power for any pickup position, and the 2 blades mean there won't be any problems with string alignment or dropouts. In the bridge position, this is a great blues pickup: combine it with a Cruiser (neck) and a Fast Track 1 (middle) for a solid mix. Pair 2 Pro Tracks in the neck and middle positions with a Fast Track 2 by the bridge for a heavy, yet versatile metal sound. Recommended for all positions. Output: 275mV.

Does exactly what it says

Comments about DiMarzio DP188 Pro Track Pickup:

I love the neck and middle single coil tones in my G&L Legacy, but I'm not a fan of the thin, bright bridge pickup on Strat-style guitars. I wanted more of a vintage-PAF crunchy/rock tone out of my bridge and the Pro Track does the trick! Before I bought it I read some conflicting reviews from people who weren't happy with it. I think it's great as long as you have realistic expectations. A Strat is never going to sound exactly like a Les Paul. They're made out of different woods and have different body shapes/thickness. But to my ears, this pickup gets me 90% of the way there. I wanted a guitar with Texas Blues tones in the neck/middle, and AC/DC-style rock tones in the bridge. For me the Pro Track was perfect. I have it wired for series, parallel, coil splits, and out-of-phase tones. As the DiMarzio website says all of those tones sound great. My guitar is VERY versatile now!

Not Bad, Serves the Purpose

Comments about DiMarzio DP188 Pro Track Pickup:

I have been playing for 24 years stage and studio. I have been using this pickup for 3 weeks now. Purchased as a replacement for the stock strat single coil. I needed more power and less ear darts for live work. This pickup did that for me but it seamed to take away some sound detail and the reactive bounce feel that the single coils gave me. After adjusting to the feel of the pickup I am starting to really appreciate it. I like how even the sound is but I think it could use a little more low end. The medium output is just right, it cranks but not over the top. I have been unable to find a pickup with even highs and mids with a boost in lows. Although it did surprised me when I ran a compressor in line and pulled off some good early breakup country chicken pickin sounds without splitting the coils and only backing off the guitar volume. So it does clean up well. After I adjusted the height of the pickup to match the output of the other singles, the entire guitar sounds pretty balanced. This will definately work for now but as always I am still looking for the ultimate tone contentment. Dimarzio site was correct though, the pickup is warm and friendly.

The title says it all! I can use it on really high gain for a searing tone or an overdrive for a Greg Howe type of tone. you won't be dissapointed!

Excellent Neck or Bridge pickup for Blues/Rock

By

from Rochester, NY

Comments about DiMarzio DP188 Pro Track Pickup:

I have experimented with a variety of hum-cancelling pickups in my American Strat, including Seymour Duncan Little '59 & Hot rails, Fender Texas Specials, Lace Sensor Red/Blue/Gold, Dimarzio Chopper & Fast Track, and of course the Pro Track. For me the Pro Track is the clear winner. It has a smooth, even response, with the right amount of gain to cover a variety of musical styles. It really shines in the Neck position, where it can cover anything from Jazz to Classic Metal. In the Bridge position it is excellent for blues or rock. It doesn't do sparkly vintage Strat sounds, but it will combine real well with a traditional single coil in the middle. I would say the Pro Track sounds similar to a good P90 soapbar pickup, but with more gain and no hum.
