Overview

With hum-canceling side-by-side coils and twin-blade pole pieces, the DiMarzio DP181 Fast Track 1 Pickup dishes out solid single-coil tone with some distinct advantages. The blade's magnetic field is continuous from end to end - no more strings misaligned over individual poles. There's also less string pull, eliminating the out of tune sound caused when magnetic pull messes with the string vibration.

Comments about DiMarzio DP181 Fast Track 1 Pickup:

my dad has this pickup in a squier strat and it sound similar if not exactly the same as his '97 oxblood les paul (i have played both guiatrs) ... and on that note the 97 oxblood is a rare model/run out of all the; oxbloods only made on that year

Fantastic!

Comments about DiMarzio DP181 Fast Track 1 Pickup:

I just put this pickup in the neck position, to replace the stock one in my Fender American strat. The original sounded very nice, but was far too weak...and hummed like hell. As far as timbre goes, the Fast Track sounds almost the same. It's still good ol' fashion strat sound and sweet all the way around the neck. However, it's a lot stronger, so it will kick the amp into overdrive a little easier. The bass notes have authority and command respect, while the bass notes in the other one were seriously wimpy. The higher notes with the fast track are very sweet and not shrill at all. Also, the strings seems to sustain a tiny bit more, probably thanks to the lessened magnetic field. All of this translated into more even, well balanced playing dynamics. And there's no hum. None. Even with maximum distortion and a mildly sloppy wiring job. Even less hum than the Fender humbucker in the bridge (which is pretty hummy by the way). Seriously, this is the 21st century; hum stopped being cool in the 70s. So there you go. If you are a Strat player and actually want to sound professional (no hum, even sound, great sustain) then get this. It's all the glorious sound you would expect from a classic strat pickup, just better. Also, your engineers/producers will love you forever since this makes their job a bit easier.

Fast Track 1 compared to American Strat

By mark peotter

Comments about DiMarzio DP181 Fast Track 1 Pickup:

I recently added 2 Fast Track Pickups (in their standard Humbucking settings) to my American Strat, giving the guitar 5 pickups. I added a switch to select either the regular Strat configuration or turn OFF the Fender neck and bridge pickups while turning ON the DiMarzio Fast Track pickups. The intention was to create 2 guitars in one. The difference in the Fast Track's is that they are not nearly as bright/harsh as the Fender PU's. The volume levels are surprisingly similar, even though I was expecting the Fast Track's to be louder than the Strat PU's. Although the volume is probably the same, it seems like a small cut going to the Fast Track's because of the loss of highs. Summary - The Fender PU's are thin and bright, and have some hum. The Fast Track's are even EQ'd, very smooth sustain, quiet, and not hot enough to add distortion to your signal.

Fast Track 1 does the job.. WELL

Comments about DiMarzio DP181 Fast Track 1 Pickup:

2 years ago I sought out to upgrade my basic Jackson JS20 Dinky electronics. My goal was to hit that 80's tone for solos with the neck pickup such as Kee Marcello in the Out Of This World album. It hits the mark every time through my digitech RP355 modeler. Harmonics are a breeze, better than the fast track 2 which is in the middle. The sustain is way better than any stock pickup. I use it for all of my clean tones as well, so the other reviews are accurate. With a little bit of fuzz it would make a great blues pickup. Can't go wrong with this little guy, it's super flexible.
