Overview

The Breed bridge pickup is not as hot as the Evolution, but it's got a warm and punchy mid-range coupled with a fat low end that rolls off before it can get muddy.

If you've seen Steve Vai play in the last few years, you may have seen him playing an Ibanez Jem guitar with the word "Pogo" taped on the face. The Pogo is fitted with DiMarzio Breed pickups and is the result of Steve's desire to have a fat, classic humbucker sound to contrast with the hotter, screaming Evolution-equipped guitars.

Harmonics come easily and the 4-conductor wiring coil enables cool "notch tone" coil-splitting. Recommended for the bridge position on solid body guitars.

The Breed was designed to warm up and smooth out the sound of 25-1/2 scale trem guitars. It's got a lot more power than a PAF, but it also has a finer touch than high-output models. Picking hard will generate a lot of voltage, but a softer attack will clean up the sound of an overdriven amp.

Outstanding!

Comments about DiMarzio DP166 The Breed Bridge Pickup:

This pickup is fantastic. The sound is very harmonically dense so notes just ring for days. It could be used for anything, regardless of what you play. The sound is bright, but it's on the warmer side of bright so the tone isn't shrill- it cuts through the mix just right for solos to shine through. It really handles chords well even with tons of overdrive. Clean tones shimmer. The addition of this pickup has made me a better player since I'm no longer fighting the tone. Try it and it will make you better too.

Rough when you want it

Comments about DiMarzio DP166 The Breed Bridge Pickup:

I just installed this PUP in the neck position of my Yamaha. I am blown away by the range and diversity this pickup allows. In dual coil configuration it has screaming highs and mids with subtle lows and high output. Splitting the coils and mixing with a Chopper PUP gives a nice smooth full range tone that is quite full and warm. So I can get both grinding metal or smoothness from this most versatile PUP. I highly recommend this one!

Excellent Pickup

Comments about DiMarzio DP166 The Breed Bridge Pickup:

I've had these in 3 different guitars. They are very warm and crisp. This is a great blues pick up with a pretty wide range of sounds. I put coil splitters on mine and the single coil sound is like a P-90 without the static. Kick in the Humbucker and it's like stepping on an OCD.
