DiMarzio created the Breed Neck Pickup in response to a request from Steve Vai for a fat, classic humbucker sound to contrast with the hotter, screaming Evolution-equipped guitars. The neck pickup is a bit louder and fatter-sounding than the PAF Pro pickups that Steve used on his earliest Jem guitars. Harmonics are easy to get, and 4-conductor wiring coil enables cool "notch tone" coil-splitting.
The guitar part is recommended for the neck position on bolt-on trem guitars and bridge position on set-neck fixed-bridge instruments.
As a neck pickup, the Breed has more than enough power to balance with high-output bridge pickups: it will work with the Tone Zone, Super Distortion and Evolution as well as The Breed bridge model. In the bridge position, it has a very warm, hot PAF tone--really smooth, with nice harmonics.

The other review is correct. This pickup has a very vintage almost Les Paul tone to it. I put this PUP in my Blacktop Stratocaster and it really added a nice warmth to the neck position. Lots of sustain too, very creamy. The split coil has nice quality to it as well. I took a gamble buying it and I don't regret it one bit. This is the tone that I was looking for.
Bought this pickup to replace the neck V7 pup in my Ibanez RG2EX1 guitar. Has a very vintage almost Les Paul sound in my guitar, which is what I was looking for. With distortion it's very fat, with nice bass to it. The cleans are awesome as well, perfect for Jazz! However, you won't get the same glassy overtones, or more modern sound of the PAF Pro. So if that's what your looking for, then skip this pup.
