Overview

The vowel-like open wah-wah feel of the PAF Pro and FRED is combined with tremendous midrange and bass for a sound that really kicks hard. Because the lows, mids, and highs are all boosted, using a Tone Zone feels like cranking up an extra set of tone controls. It adds further dimension to the sound of your amp - that elusive edge that can make a good-sounding rig into a great-sounding one. Notes seem to get bigger after they're picked, and burn hard as they sustain. It's the right stuff to wake up your amp. Ballsy, aggressive tone has plenty of drive in all the right frequencies, abundant gain to push preamps and power amps, and sensitivity to pick attack that gets the most out of any style from metal to blues. Hot enough to qualify as a high-output pickup but with a wider dynamic range. Hard picking will produce a lot of power and softer picking will be much cleaner and quieter.

Tone Zone has it all: Power & Dynamics

By drDanZ

from Rochester, NY

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

I tried the Tone Zone in two different solidbody guitars: one with a basswood body and another with a mahogany body & 1/4" thick figured maple top. All other features are identical on the two guitars: maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, floyd rose tremolo, etc. I found the Tone Zone to be a bit too muddy on the basswood body guitar, though it would work fine with a bright amp. However, it is absolutely wonderful on the mahogany + maple top guitar. It has the perfect balance of highs, mids, and lows. The tone is warm & powerful, and the way it responds to pick dynamics is unreal! Play it soft and you get a wonderful bluesy sound, or dig in for total metal mayhem. Highly recommended!

The Ultimate Tone, The Tone Zone

By Mic1412

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

I have an Ibanez S prestige 2000, and was with the QM2 bridge pick-up. At first I was not satisfied but tried to live with it by using effecter to change the tone. Luckily, I found this Tone zone, it perfectly changed my concept. Not only the tone itself, but also the pronunciation of every single notes, you will feel like it sounds sort of like "wao wao". Tone zone is also a dynamic pick-up, many famous guitarists use it as well. (ex: Paul Gilbert of Mr. Big, Racer-X) If you play hard rock or heavy metal, Tone Zone is the best choice of all Dimarzio pick-ups. It gives you heavy punch, and with every note you play, it has its unique grain. Dimarzio Tone Zone, definitely worth to buy!!

DiMarzio Tone Zone

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

This is one of the most amazing pickups I have ever heard, and its also extremely versitile. I put this in my Ibanez S1520(mahongany body) and it sounds absolutely amazing. I was considering getting an X2N but I'm extremely happy with my decision because the Tone Zone has all the power I need for metal, and can still do the blues easily. Its even coil-tappable if you really want that authentic blues sound. If your looking for a bridge humbucker for any style of music, choose the Tone Zone.

Brown Sound Glory

By Van Halen Fan

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

I've tried to get the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge sound for awhile now and most people suggested Seymour Duncans. Must have thought I was after the early VH sound and not the new VH sound. Then I got to try out this DiMarzio pickup that was supposed to be the MM EVH pup. It sounded just like it. Also, to get the full expericence, get the DiMarzio Air Norton in the neck.

Awesome Pickup!!

By Wade

from Oxnard, Ca

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

I've owned this Charvel Model 4 from the mid 80's since it was new and I've always loved the way it sounded. But recently I've been having some problems with my bridge pup buzzing and thought it was time to get a replacement. I did some research and found the Tone Zone. Last night I popped this puppy in and WOW. What a sound! At first I wasn't sure how this pup would sound with the built in mid boost the Charvel came with, but now all my doubts are gone. No matter how saturated the distortion is, you can still hear every single note. The only negative is that it sounds pretty muddy with the clean channel. However, you can wire it up in a parallel configuration and brighten it right up if you need to. I suggest using the "Dual Sound" setup if you can. That way you have the best of both worlds.

Tone Zone's review

By Steve Nazo

from Santiago, Chile

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

I've viewed a paul gilbert's video saying this pickups is his favourite. After installing in my guitar on bridge position I have the same opinion. Very nice tone, with a lot of sustain. I use this pickup on bridge position, on the neck position I use the air norton... both are awesome, excelent combination

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

You want a fat sounding pickup? This is it!! I put the Tone Zone S into my Gibson Melody Maker Re-issue and it just rips!I play thru an old Marshall 50 watt and this pickup makes a low-end Gibson a total tone monster! Highly recomended for anybody looking for fat Les Paul tone in a Strat or any other guitar you wish. Great pickup!!

Versitile

By Michael Ferral

from Nashville, Tn

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

Replaced a Super Distortion with the Tone Zone and it is great. Much more color and warmth allows for a more layered sound although out of Dimarzio's "High Output" variety this is one of the lowest output pickups. I have it coupled with a Ari Norton in the neck and it is a great balance. If you want a pickup that can be very heavy but is also responsive enough to use for some rhythm this is the one..

Comments about DiMarzio DP155 Tone Zone Humbucker Pickup:

I recently bought a Gibson Les Paul Less Plus, I replaced the bridge Classic 57 Plus pickup with a Seymour Duncan JB SH4. Though I liked the way it sounded, I wasn`t very impressed. The JB has very good mids and highs but it lacks bass, and the combination of the JB with the neck pickup (Classic 57) wasn`t good. The Classic 57 has more bass response than the JB, so they were not balanced. I decided to go for the Tone Zone in the bridge position. Wow, what a change! Now my guitar has a great sound, the combination of the tone zone in the bridge with the Classic 57 in the neck is now balanced. I play Hard rock and 80's metal and now my guitar is really present and sounds great with distortion, the mids and highs are really present and the low frequencies make the guitar sound ballsy! Get it if you are into great big sound!
