The DiMarzio PAF Pro was created when chops-intensive playing was reaching high popularity, and high-gain amps and rack systems were the norm. A pickup was needed that combined a lot of presence and "cut" with an open-sounding PAF vibe. The transparency of its sound lets the PAF Pro slice through heavy processing, where darker-sounding pickups get lost in the mud of the effects chain. Low notes have both snap and chunk, and there is a spike in the midrange that gives the pickup a subtle "aw" vowel sound, like a wah-wah pedal stopped in the middle. Treble response is tweaked, so high notes stand out without getting brittle. The PAF Pro makes an outstanding neck pickup in almost any guitar, and it's an exceptional bridge pickup when high output isn't required.
The PAF Pro is a dependable choice right across the board -- neck and bridge positions, solidbody, semi-hollow and hollowbody guitars are equally effective uses.
This is a great building block pickup, because it's effective in many different situations. Try it in the neck position with a hotter bridge pickup - anything from a Norton to a Super Distortion will create a calibrated two-humbucker match. As a bridge pickup, it's really effective with single-coils, because it won't drown them out with too much power, and it's bright enough to blend in tone-wise.

I got the stock bridge pickup in a Mahogany neck through guitar swapped out for the Dimarzio PAF Pro. The notes sound clear, and they cut through the mix well. I highly recommenced the PAF Pro if note clarity is your priority. However, If you are used to high output pickups, you may want something different.
Incredible tone, sustain, output, and amazing screaming harmonics. I'd say its the most versatile pickup DiMarzio has made. It gives you punch, and its amazing how it sounds. If you are afraid of putting it in the bridge position, you wont regret it because it really has power and punch. Buy it NOW.
If you are a professional musician or do much recording you need to have these in one of your guitars. This is easily the best pickup I have used, among many, in the studio. When played clean, it sounds clearer and more detailed than you thought your electric ever could. Distorted, It has a beautifully tight low end response that is voiced really deep and ballsy so it never gets muddy. The deep low-end also works perfectly for lower tuning. Lots of perceived growl and emotion. Steve Vai's "Passion and Warfare" album is an excellent example of this pickup in action. I use my PAF PRO's in my Ibanez 7PBK Jem. I actually do NOT play shred. I vary from a David Gilmour tone when clean, to a growling distortion from my Engl Fireball.
This pickup has great tone and harmonics. I have mine in the neck position. It gives you a tone like you had a Cry Baby set in the middle. It sounds good distorted or clean. The clean sounds good with a coil split switch hooked up to give you a dual sound. Distorted the leads sound incredible. Highly recommended.
This is the best neck pickup I have ever heard, I put it in my mahogany body Ibanez and I couldn't believe how great it sounded. It has a great Santana-ish sound, a lot like the neck pickup of a Les Paul. The only problem with it is if you use massive amounts of distortion, it may get a bit muddy, but theres nothing a good old EQ can't fix. I'd say if your looking for a neck humbucker, go for the PAF Pro.
The PAF Pro is an excellent replacement humbucker for the neck position of Alder, Basswood, and Mahogany solidbody guitars. It will serve you well for fat cleans, warm solos, and warm rythm sounds with just the right amount of crunch. It has an uncanny ability to sound warm & distinct at the same time. So it can get the cut you need without ever sounding harsh. With high gain amps you can achieve a smooth, liquid lead sound - think early Steve Vai. It blends real well with the Fred, Norton, or Tone Zone in the bridge.
The DiMarzio PAF Pro pickup whether used in the neck or the bridge gives you a hot tone. It delivers power and precision through it's consistent clarity. The 'aw' like sound gives you that punch and persistence most pickups do not obtain. Although it is comparable to the air norton it is preferred by most musicians because of its chunk, snap and expressive pick response. The neck position pickups if installed that way to your preference gives you a clarity that is inexplicable. I've played the pickup personally in the neck you can play classical beethoven, mozart, bach, tchaikovsky etc. with the ease of being able to hear exactly what notes you are playing. Now in the bridge position it's tone and clarity and overall treble response are remarkable. If you are looking for the 'perfect' pickup the PAF Pro is the way to go. Check it out today!!
