Overview

The DiMarzio PAF Pro was created when chops-intensive playing was reaching high popularity, and high-gain amps and rack systems were the norm. A pickup was needed that combined a lot of presence and "cut" with an open-sounding PAF vibe. The transparency of its sound lets the PAF Pro slice through heavy processing, where darker-sounding pickups get lost in the mud of the effects chain. Low notes have both snap and chunk, and there is a spike in the midrange that gives the pickup a subtle "aw" vowel sound, like a wah-wah pedal stopped in the middle. Treble response is tweaked, so high notes stand out without getting brittle. The PAF Pro makes an outstanding neck pickup in almost any guitar, and it's an exceptional bridge pickup when high output isn't required.

The PAF Pro is a dependable choice right across the board -- neck and bridge positions, solidbody, semi-hollow and hollowbody guitars are equally effective uses.

This is a great building block pickup, because it's effective in many different situations. Try it in the neck position with a hotter bridge pickup - anything from a Norton to a Super Distortion will create a calibrated two-humbucker match. As a bridge pickup, it's really effective with single-coils, because it won't drown them out with too much power, and it's bright enough to blend in tone-wise.

The DiMarzio PAF Pro pickup whether used in the neck or the bridge gives you a hot tone. It delivers power and precision through it's consistent clarity. The 'aw' like sound gives you that punch and persistence most pickups do not obtain. Although it is comparable to the air norton it is preferred by most musicians because of its chunk, snap and expressive pick response. The neck position pickups if installed that way to your preference gives you a clarity that is inexplicable. I've played the pickup personally in the neck you can play classical beethoven, mozart, bach, tchaikovsky etc. with the ease of being able to hear exactly what notes you are playing. Now in the bridge position it's tone and clarity and overall treble response are remarkable. If you are looking for the 'perfect' pickup the PAF Pro is the way to go. Check it out today!!

After researching and reading really good comments about this pup, I decided to give it a try and found that it sounds clean and glassy but very little sustain and poor harmonics, compared to the AirNorton that I installed in one of my guitars. The Norton has a fat sound, warm tones and it doesn't get muddy at all, very responsive for soloing with heavy distortion and superb for cleans, very versatile, you can play blues, jazz, ska, hard rock, classic rock, etc. To me the Air norton is phenomenal and a must have... PAF PRO sounds good but not as good as I expected.

Fantastic neck pickup in my Les Paul

Comments about DiMarzio DP151 PAF Pro Pickup:

Works very well in the neck position of a Les Paul, a little brighter, "aw" vowel sound. You will need to adjust the pole pieces slightly for better sound balance across the strings. Sounds great at clean and clear settings and focused and clear sound at the higher gain settings.

      Clear

Comments about DiMarzio DP151 PAF Pro Pickup:

I got the stock bridge pickup in a Mahogany neck through guitar swapped out for the Dimarzio PAF Pro. The notes sound clear, and they cut through the mix well. I highly recommenced the PAF Pro if note clarity is your priority. However, If you are used to high output pickups, you may want something different.

      Vintage Modern kinda vibe!

      By Warren Barsana

Comments about DiMarzio DP151 PAF Pro Pickup:

I agree with many that say its a great neck pick up. I bought the bridge version F-space and installed it on my warmoth maple neck maple fretboard, alder strat body in bridge position, definetly NOT disappointed! great warm tone and very good clarity, awesome chunk on the low end when needed and warm solo notes. My pedals are simple, Boss TU-3,Boss OD-3 and Boss DD-20.
My amp is Roland JC-120 loaded with Texas Heats. I gig almost every weekend and this guitar with PAF Pro and two Dimarzio area 58 neck/middle is becoming my go to guitar. Highly recommend it in the bridge if your looking for a versatile pick up which can pump out vintage modern vibe.

      PAF Pro

      By Nikolas Silea

      from Ohio

Comments about DiMarzio DP151 PAF Pro Pickup:

I'm buying this because I have the same thing in another guitar and I was looking for the same tone in my backup. It did exactly what I wanted it to. It's only an 8 because it's awefuly expensive. I know that DiMarzio and SD (and others) put a lot of effort into development and have extensive product lines but there are 16 solid body guitar models for less than $150 on this site right now and a ton more under $200. There is no way that component costs, like pickups, can be nearly as high as we are charged. For example the Charvel Desolation Double Cutaway is listed at $599 with EMG 81/85s. Those pickups are $200 for the set. Is it possible that the pickups represent 1/3 the overall cost of the guitar? They are more likely less than a hundred and maybe as low as $50 to the manufacturer. I know that I have to pay more than someone buying bulk but 10%, 20% or even 50% more seems to be much cheaper than we have to pay at retail. I don't begrudge anyone there livelyhood but I don't think that I will be dropping this kind of coin on pickups anymore.
Has 5 wires so that you can coil-split. It comes with mounting screws and springs but does not come with trim rings.
I've never had a quality issue with a DiMario pickup and this continues the trend.
As one of their older models, this one isn't as expensive as some of their offerings but it is about double the cost of something from GFS, for example.

Comments about DiMarzio DP151 PAF Pro Pickup:

My Ibanez now sounds like a guitar in the 900-1000 dollar range. Fred in bridg and Paf in the neck. These pickups are so versatile and full of life. I'd suggest them to anyone and everyone.
Excellent pickup for neck position. Clarity and thickness are superb. Very happy.
      It's Dimarzio, nuff said.

      Paf Pro-Shred this

      By Yord

Comments about DiMarzio DP151 PAF Pro Pickup:

Fist-If your not into leads this pickups isn't for you. I use this pickup in the bridge of a Ibanez Rg with a 5150 II and just absolutely love it. I have been playing on EMG's for years and now using this Paf Pro is just delightful. Its very clean~ I can play a C chord with lost of distortion and still hear it, not just wall of mud. Plus its not a noisy pickup so if your doing breakdowns and stuff you can pull off your noise gate and it sounds better. I use a Paf Joe in the neck in combination with this and luvin it. Lastly you cant hide much with this pickups so beware emg users.

paf pro Sound like a pro

Comments about DiMarzio DP151 PAF Pro Pickup:

I put one in the bridge of my rg 550 and the guitar is now oozin tone.I have a classic 550 with a maple fretboard. The tone I get is very paul gilbert like.It just has the right amount of everything to sum things up tonewise.Sustain is not that much improved from the old V2 humbucker, but there is a difference in sustain not by much though. In coil split this puppy sounds good as well, it can get very twangy in combination with the middle pup.For solos this thing just cuts through like a knife, but be careful though. It gives away your mistakes pretty easy.Easy on those bends XDIm just havin a blast with this humbucker I wanted something that would retain my original 'acoustic' guitar tone without adding too much and this pup just did that. These pups rely heavily on the players techniqueif you play good than you will sound great with these.

Incredible tone, sustain, output, and amazing screaming harmonics. I'd say its the most versatile pickup DiMarzio has made. It gives you punch, and its amazing how it sounds. If you are afraid of putting it in the bridge position, you wont regret it because it really has power and punch. Buy it NOW.

      AMAZING PICKUP

      By x2n420

      from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about DiMarzio DP151 PAF Pro Pickup:

I got this pup installed in the neck of my warlock and it is truly remarkable. The amount of styles you can play with this pickup is outstanding, thrash, funk, jazz, rockabilly, etc can be played with a quick tweek on the eq and the tone is heart breaking. I got an X2N in the bridge and that gives me all the versatility I need to play any style of music that comes to mind. Highly recommended.
