Read online that the DP149s were one of the best investments in an upgrade for my MIM Jazz, and I have to agree! Easy to install, really open sound.

Comments about DiMarzio DP149 Ultra Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

Bought a Vintage Modified '77 Squier last year from GC. I bought it simply because of the Black Friday sale plus I had some credit on a return so the price was too good to pass up, and the fact that I graduated in 1977. I already have a VM Squier P-bass that I absolutely love so was happy to give this one a try. I wasn't expecting a boutique bass and it did need some upgrades such as the pick guard was warped, the bridge was not too solid and the electronics were scratchy. But otherwise the bass was solid and perfectly stage worthy. I changed out all the other short comings and made sure it was a player so after some time I decided it was worth putting in better pups. Picked these based on reading all the user reviews I could find. They are exactly what I was expecting and hoping for. Before, the E & A were muddy and undefined and the higher register was a bit lacking in sparkle. Now the entire spectrum in clear and articulate. The tone is balanced and warm yet very lively. I suppose with high pickup height they would really thunder but I'm into classic rock so want a less hi-fi or intense tone. If when reading reviews these sound like what are looking for safe bet they are.

Improvement for my Fender MIM J-bass

      By DANIEL NAJIMIAN

      from Orrville, OH

Comments about DiMarzio DP149 Ultra Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

I decided to have the stock single-coil pickups in my Fender MIM Jazz Bass. Based on favorable reviews, I chose these DiMarzio DP149s. After having them installed, I not only noticed a quieter instrument due to hum-cancelling, but also found improved volume and deeper punch. For under $100, these DiMarzio pickups proved to be a good choice. And thanks to Don, guitar tech at the Fairlawn, OH GC, for doing a great job of installing them.

Breathed new life into GL Jazz Bass

      By darlene brandewiede

      from Cleveland, Oh

Comments about DiMarzio DP149 Ultra Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

Just as the other individual noted with their experience with their GL Jazz bass, I have more tone and versatility with these DP 149 pups compared to the stock pickups. I have that distinctive growl and higher output signal than before. I investigated both series and parallel wiring and prefer the output and tonal quality of series wiring, which is more J bass traditional sound. This pup project over the Christmas break was a practical and enjoyable alternative to buying another bass. I look orward to playing out at church and other gigs and other rigs with this new set ups.

The perfect replacement for the Geddy Lee Jazz Bass standard Fender original pickups.

      By Don Howell

      from Don Howell...Indianapolis, Indiana

Comments about DiMarzio DP149 Ultra Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

I've been on a "tone search" for 2-1/2 years. I ended up with an Acoustic B800H amp (400 watts @ 8 ohms & 800 watts rms @ 4 ohms), an Acoustic Neo B15 (400 watts rms @ 8 ohms), and a GK Ultra Lite 15 (400 watts @ 8 ohms). So, I could either run 1 cabinet @ 8 ohms for 400 watts, or both cabinets in parallel for a true 800 watts. The perfect rig, where the Acoustic Neo B15 pushes lows, and the GK Ultra lite pushes the mids & highs. Although I've never needed the 800 watts, using both cabinets gave the perfect tone, rounding out the lows, mids, & highs perfectly. Two months ago I got my dream bass, the Fender Geddy Lee MIJ. For my hands, it has the perfect neck, with the lowest action possible across the whole fretboard. However, the tone/output from the stock pickups lacked any tone whatsoever...forget about the "orginal" jazz sound...it's tone dead no matter what rig you use. After exhaustive research on the internet, reading reviews from all the sources I could find, I settled on the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz as the best replacement pickups (I would not even consider active pups as I'm tired of worrying the battery would die in the middle of a gig!). Once the switch was completed (not that complicated to solder yourself) the difference was more than night & day. Output increased, every note across the fretboard rang out clear as a bell with even volume, and the single coil hum is gone forever. I cannot stress enough how much difference the new pickups made. I am totally satisfied with bass now, and even if I won millions in the lottery, I would not buy any other bass other than the Getty Lee Jazz and install the DiMarzio pups. To me...the perfect bass to go along with my perfect rig. Don't forget the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pickup have the bridge pickup slighly larger than the neck for a perfect fit for some jazz basses...other jazz basses (I believe including MIM have same size pickups and the bridge one would be too large to fit.) Research pays off on this. I am a seaoned semi-pro bassist in a host band for a weekly blues jam and the compliments keep coming in every week on my tone and the fact that you can now hear every single note across the fretboard clear and all at the same volume.

      Finally Noiseless!

      By John Reister

      from Brandon, MS

Comments about DiMarzio DP149 Ultra Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

Just installed Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pickups in my 76 Jazz Bass. For the first time in 25 years my bass is noiseless. Not to mention the incredible tone these pickups provide. I ordered these pickups in November and they were backordered for about 5 weeks. Well worth the wait. If you are looking for new Jazz Bass pickups, then stop looking and buy these, you won't be disappointed.

      Clarity and punch

      By F.

      from Lakewood, NJ

Comments about DiMarzio DP149 Ultra Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

When these pickups were installed for me- I immediately heard the difference from my stock pickups. Clarity, punch, and finally confidence. I didn't have to worry about single coil feedback and there was finally a punch to my bass. I like to create my EQ w/ a lot of treble and mid range and I use some gain and lower my master for some punchy, treble filled punk/ pop punk sound and with my old pickups it was really hard to do this because so much feedback would bleed out of my cabinet. I would highly recommend these pickups to accommodate various styles of bass. Also, I'd like to recommend for people to get these professionally installed- the last thing you want to do is mess this up and also to adjust your action and intonation when it's installed and get the proper gauge of strings for your tuning and sound. When you endure in a new piece of gear- make sure you do it right =].

      Years of wasted basses!!!

      By William

      from Phoenix, AZ

Comments about DiMarzio DP149 Ultra Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

For years I have traded up, traded down, and spent my tax return looking for a better sound. Finally, I gave up and just figured the sound I wanted wasn't to be had in my budget. I took one last chance and finally just installed new pickups and I can't believe it. I have been lusting over high-end basses in the stores for years and I no longer need to, these pickups have given my fender everything I thought it was missing. Just as advertised, the lows definitely are more prominent while still leaving the highs clear and bright. Great pickups. A must try for anyone who unsatisfied with his/her current sound.
