The DiMarzio DP148 Ultra Jazz Bridge Pickup is hum-cancelling and takes a traditional Fender Jazz Bass sound and really opens it up. Lows are deeper, highs are more percussive, and the mid-range is round but not muddy. Harmonic overtones jump off the strings. It's also quick; with instant response to either fingers or pick-style playing. There's only one word for this combination of qualities: "musical."
Choose the perfectly matched Ultra Jazz pair (our sku# 300296), or try an Ultra Jazz bridge pickup with a Split P (our sku# 302265) in the middle position.

When I installed a Split P P bass pickup in my Jackson Professional Series Concert EX bass, I quickly found out the new P bass pickup had way more output than the vintage J bass pickup I had in the bridge position. I searched around for a J bass pickup, and settled on the Ultra J. Dimarzio recommends the Ultra J as a good companion for a Split P. I agree. The Ultra J has enough output to keep up with the Split P. When properly installed and wired up, I found the Ultra J to have a tighter bass than the Split P, which has a big, deep low end. Of course the Split P is in the middle position which contributes to a deeper low end. The Ultra J's high end is clear. What really blew me away was the midrange. The Ultra J has a fantastic growl that makes it great for rock. It growls like a Rickenbacker, but with a definite Jazz bass character. It's a bigger, nastier, more rock n roll J bass pickup. If you play a heavy style, and put your bass through a fuzz, distortion or overdriven bass amp, the growl and the tight low end will contribute to a more aggressive, heavy tone, while keeping the low end from becoming muddy. The tone with the pan pot in the middle, with the Split P and Ultra J both on, is the best of both pickups. Deep, clear, and very punchy. My Jackson bass even has the metal-approved granite finish. This pickup is perfect for it.
