Overview

Perfect for use in neck or middle position for guitars with a humbucker in the bridge, or in any position in a classic Strat* configuration. Works well through high-gain racks and preamps. Eric Johnson found that wiring an HS-2 for single coil operation produces an incredible vintage tone. Mixes well with HS-3, or YJM pickups. Also works in H-S-H combinations with the PAF Pro, FRED, Air Classic, or the Humbucker from Hell (See recommended accessories box on this page).

This is probably one of the nicest sounding stack pickups I use. I have tried all other types of pickups similiar to this and still come back to the HS2. So many have tried to copy the sound but not close. It has enough highs and well balanced lows and mid. Highly recommended if you like the modern sounding Strat. If you want something more vintage, get the HS1. For more of a humbucker sound get a HS3, but my favorite is the HS2. Go for it man!!!!

At first I put this in the bridge but then I put it in the neck wired in single and that sounds much better. But I feel the clean bottom end is a little flat, stale. I put a Blue velvet in the neck and thats WAY better, much more like a strat but still too noisy, VV Blues is my real ticket. All in all for the price this pickup is not bad but we all know that real tone is in your fingers.

Charvel SD 2 2H Neck Humbucker replacement

By Brian Beahler

from Newark, Delaware

Comments about DiMarzio DP116 HS-2 Guitar Pickup:

Spent about a month looking at different pick-ups on the internet. Wanted to maintain the solid hitting bridge pick-up, but needed something smoother for cleans. Chose the HS-2 pick-up due to medium output, coil stack for low noise floor, vintage Strat tone. The stock SD '59 was great and all, but now.....Strat sounds from the neck; position 2 and 4 tones, great pairing with the stock bridge humbucker. The lower output from the HS-2 works great with a toggle switch. Switching from bridge to neck now...total joy. Great output difference for rhythm/lead switching without hitting a button on the floor. Wish I'd done this a couple of years ago. An honest noise free single coil. Charvel San Dimas style 2 2H (only issue so far....do I need a Fender amp?)

the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow

Comments about DiMarzio DP116 HS-2 Guitar Pickup:

awesome! after establishing the HS 3 and HS 4 (yjm) on my strats I turned to the HS 2 for a clean brighter end sound on one of my strats. i installed it in humbucker mode and lo and behold, the song of the rainbow! the sound was a true strat sound but cleaner and of course quiet. through my high gain amp it was a suit and body match. my overdrive pedal did not ruin the pick ups natural sound and my amp (a known brand head) sounded clean and definition was present in my playing like the HS 3 and HS 4. but what got me after the installation of the pick was the close resemblence in sound to a famous guitarist who dresses in black and wears platform shoes with that english lord accent. how astute but not as royal as the distinguished HS 2. every virtuoso needs this in at least one of their guitars. Also, this pick up shoud not be recommended to players who rely on hiding behind volume and distortion. your skill will be revealed!

The Best Single Coil so Far!!

By Steve A

from Southeast

Comments about DiMarzio DP116 HS-2 Guitar Pickup:

I've been consistently playing for the past 20 years, installed & ripped out over 10+ pups of different brands & I must say the HS2 & HS3 are the best SC so far. They sound glassy & clear but no hum & quiet (even when sitting in frt of a PC monitor). Great all around sound & definition. Sounds beefy when overdriven & very descent under mass distortion. I have HS2s in the neck & middle w/an HS3 in the brigde. All 3 provide that classic strat tone w/ the 5 way switch.

Clean pickup

Comments about DiMarzio DP116 HS-2 Guitar Pickup:

I wanted to compliment a new DP100 pickup that I put in the bridge and since I liked it so much, I stuck with Dimarzio. I put a HS-2 in the middle and a HS-3 in the neck. This combination is great since they all have good tone and are completely different. I can use the HS2 and HS3 combo and sound clear and clean with or without some overdrive. Then I can kick in the DP100 distortion pickup and rock-out using the same amp settings. These pickups are clean and hum free. I keep them wired in standard humbucking and did not bother with coil switching. Oh yeah, this is in a plywood strat copy which now sounds nice.

Pickup Review

Comments about DiMarzio DP116 HS-2 Guitar Pickup:

This is an amazing pickup. I have it in the middle position of my Strat wired thru a DiMarzio EP1108 Micro switch. When combined with the standard five way Strat switch. I get 11 diferent tones.I have a Seymour Duncan SH1 Hotrails in the bridge and a Lace sensor gold in the neckI have it wired for "dual tone with single coil switching" - The DiMarzio site gives several wiring variations.I love settings #2 and #4 on the five way with the EP1108 set to the middle position - killer tone!Setting #3 on the five way with the EP1108 in the middle gives the best single coil sound I have ever heard.BUY THIS PICKUP!

Great tone

By Surge-LGA2s

Comments about DiMarzio DP116 HS-2 Guitar Pickup:

I bought this pickup to supplement two humbuckers in my Ibanez S470. The pickup by itself is a great sounding strat pickup. But when it's split with another pickup, LOOK OUT! It has an amazing blues sound when combined with a humbucker in the neck position. I have two Super Distortions in the bridge and neck, and the HS-2 in the middle. You can't go wrong with this pickup. Absolutely amazing! When they say "hum-cancelling" with this pickup, they mean it!

great buy

Comments about DiMarzio DP116 HS-2 Guitar Pickup:

I upgraded my mex strat with this in this middle with HS3 in the neck. The two sound amazing. The HS2 is very well rounded with a great vintage clean tone that also mixes great with other pickups. I am also impressed with difference in noise or hum compared to stock. The have really no noise unless your playing with high distortion and pedal. All around it is probably the best pickup for ** bucks around.
