I love Dimarzio pickups. I put this in the bridge of a custom 6 lb strat body and is was way too much given the weight and resonance of the guitar. Great loud heavy metal sound but no other kind of dynamic. Was not thrilled with how it sounded as a single coil. This would be better suited in a light, perhaps basswood, bodied guitar that is used for heavy metal. That being said a neck pickup to go with it should be comparable to its output. I switched to a Tone Zone and love it!

Rippin' Pup!

By Guitar Daddy

from Greenville, SC

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

I picked up a couple DiMarzio DP 100 Super Distortion Pick-ups and dropped them into a couple of project guitars I had been working on. These pups are hot! Guaranteed screaming tone - great for rock. For the price this is a great replacement pick-up and if it works with your guitar the chrome is a sweet look.

The best pickup for heavy styles.

By H.Thornton

from Seattle,Wa

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

I have a Marshall vs100,boss ns-2,Jackson guitar. Its an alder body, bolt on maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, floyd rose trem.Has a pretty bright tone. The super distortion in the bridge position added more bass, punch and fullness to my guitars tone.Just what I wanted.High output, fat, crunchy distortion without being muddy.Dimarzio makes great pickups for live and studio work.Seymore duncan makes good pickups too,but I find them on the trebly/harsh side.

Satisfied

By Porkchop

from Houston Tx

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

I actually put this pick up in the bridge position of an old pawn shop telecaster and put an Seymour Duncan invader in the neck position (along w/ floyd Rose locking trem). I was disappointed in the Duncan's muddy distortion. The only saving grace was this DiMarzio Super Distortion which allows for fantastic shred work w/out being too treble-ly so to speak. The Harmonics are awesome w/out being too touchy / sensitive. This is by far one of the best p/ups I have ever used.

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

This pickup is great because it is hard to find a pickup out there good for both classic rock and metal and this is perfect for it. so if your looking for a pickup that uses these two music styles this is the pickup for you.

A Classic Heavy Metal Pickup

By Carlos F. Palma C.

from Panama, Panama

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

I was looking for a classic Iron Maiden sound and this humbucker is the one. I already used it on an Ibanez Roadstar Series II years ago, but now my Fat Black Fender Strat was screamming to have one installed on it. Used by Dave Murray in the early years of Maiden, if you are looking for classic rock and heavy metal tone, buy this great quality pickup. The clean sound is perfect, basically don't need to equalize if you are using a nice amp. When used with distortion just make sure you are ready to scream out loud!

this is an interesting pickup

By Kaleb

from Davie, FL

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

In general this is a very good pickup. However, it is better suited for heavier music styles that require more than just the distortion created by an amplifier. If you play anything heavier than hard rock this pickup will be perfect for you. My favorite part about this pickup is its incredible ability to make your solos fill the room. But, because of this pickups lack of vintage PAF tone I'm gonna switch out the neck pickup for an air norton to get some creamy blues tones.

This pickup screams

By Ray

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

I bought this pickup to replace the stock brige pickup on a Les Paul Studio. This pickup lives up to all the hype you've read about it. Now I'm going to replace the neck p/u with the companion to the super distortion. I would highly recommend this p/u if you play rock/metal.

Great Frikkin' Tone!

By Gary Jameson

from Wichita, KS

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

I owned a Guild S-300 with ash body and maple neck that came stock with these pickups. I was pleased to note that they sounded very similar to the 490 and 498 Gibson pickups with Alembic Hot Rod kits installed in my old SG! The Super Distortion pickups never disappointed, whether playing clean or with ANY level of overdrive/distortion. I was worried that they would be too treble-y with the ash and maple, but the tone was fat and ripping, with just the right amount of mid-boost and a tight low-end.

Boston flavor....

By John Nail

from Kennewick,WA.

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

I got this Pup to go in an LP which I was modding to get that "Boston" Tom Scholz sound....it delivered and then some. Massive crunch and smooth unending sustain on a gained Marshall. John - Washington

Insanely Hot, or Soothingly Mellow

By Tom C.

from NJ

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

All I have to say is, I bought these after trying them in store on a guitar I do not remember. All I do remember though, was that these pickups can tackle heavy palm mutes, 80s Leads, or even 60s Twang stuff. These pickups can do just about any genre and rock it up. I just bought a set for my Dean ML, and back in the late 70s these came stock on Dean Guitars. No wonder! These are my pickups of choice, I highly reccomend them!

The One and Only

By Charles Gray

from Raymore MO

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

I bought an old original 70's SD at a guitar show for 5 bucks, not knowing for sure what it was. I put it in the bridge position of my 335. I had always heard about how good they sounded, but never owned one. WOW, it was the tone I had looked for years, fat bottom. great mid, & not all thin & brittle on the top. Everyone says there too hot, just back them down off the strings for less power. I since have them in all 7 of my guitars, some split, some not. By the way, they sound good as a single coil.

Super Distortion = Classic Rock Sound

By MrKnowaLiittle

from Chicago Illinois

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

I just had one of these DP100s put in the bridge position of my Les Paul Standard and couldn't be more thrilled. This pickup gives me the ultimate Classic Rock tone. Think of mid seventies Zeppelin or Thin Lizzy. This PUP sounds especially fantastic thru a tube amp as it's high output pushes my Marshall to break-up even at low volumes. The end result is thicker dirtier single notes and nasty growling power chords. If you want "tightly focused searing sustain for your solos and raunchy overdrive from your amp" this is the one to buy.

80's Metal

By Leonardo Monteiro

from So Paulo, SP

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

If you're into 80's Metal and is looking for a PU that cleans up nicely when volume is rolled back and provides full, balanced tone with lots of harmonics when used with an overdriven tube amp, this is the PU for you.

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

i have heard very good thing about this pickup when i bought it i was afraid that it wouldnt live up to the hype but fear not it met and exceded all of my expectations. it is a hot sounding pickup but is also fat for a blusey tone. unlike other pickups of this caliber it is not overwound so it cleans up nicely so it sounds just as good clean as overdriven this is a great pickup especialy for the price

great but...

By Ian

from Olathe

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

Took out my Evolution bridge & put this in its place. Sounds fine, but hard of get rid of all the feedback & humming. When trying to get professional recordings, unless it's full-on heavy metal, you may not want this. You'll have to run tons of Gate to cover up all the humming & feedback etc. I have to junk this pick-up & switch back to my Evolutions.

Comments about DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup:

If you're hesitant about picking a pickup don't be with this one. It's been around forever for a reason, paired with a PAF in the neck the Super Distortion delivers tried and true sound that can't be beat. I use this pickup exclusively in the bridge of all my guitars, it's got a great bite.

Put this in my Epi Les Paul Custom SilverBurst in the bridge. Really great overdrive. The open chrome looks awesome and compliments the SD2 that I bought for the neck.
