The DiMarzio Air Zone DP192 is best described as a vintage version of DiMarzio's Tone Zone pickup. This humbucker has the same low string-pull as DiMarzio's other Airbucker pickups for singing sustain. In addition the Air Zone DP192 pickup has the big bass response and cool harmonics of The Tone Zone, with extra sensitivity and control.

The Air Zone DP192 is a great match for very hot amps, allowing you to take full advantage of massive preamp gain without turning the sound to mud or fuzzy noise. The DiMarzio Air Zone DP 192 is also a great neck pickup for jazz players who need to get hollowbody archtop sound from a solid body guitar. The DP192 pickup offers exceptionally good split and series-parallel capability.

The DiMarzio Air Zone DP 192 Humbucker is Recommended for:
Bridge position primarily in solid body and semi-hollow body guitars (see Tech Talk for neck position application).

Tech Talk:
The Air Zone DP192 Humbucker has an ultra-fat PAF sound with more output. The dynamic range from soft to hard picking is very wide, and the combination of dual-resonance coils with the Airbucker magnetic field creates sustained notes that hang on to harmonic overtones longer, instead of becoming muddy as they fade. The Air Zone DP192 also works as a very warm, full neck pickup for jazz sound, and can be combined with a DiMarzio Tone Zone, Super Distortion or Super 3 pickup in the bridge position.

      • Perfect for warming bright guitars

Comments about DiMarzio Air Zone DP192 Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

My Modulus-Genesis guitars are bright instruments that came with Dimarzio Air Classics. Not a good combo for me as I want a thick but articulate singing tone that cleans up when I turn the volume down. Since installing the Air Zones, I've never looked back. These are alder body guitars with maple tops. I have an Ibanez couch guitar that I found a used Tone Zone for but it's not the same. It's over bearing on that mahogany body guitar and doesn't have the soul that the Air Zones ooze.

      • Tames Bright Guitar Well

Comments about DiMarzio Air Zone DP192 Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

I have a very brightly toned guitar....maple neck-through with swamp ash body sides and flame maple top. Swamp ash is not overly bright but with so much maple, I had to tame the high end and fatten up the tone.
I had a Duncan JB in it (normally one of my favorites for sure) but it allowed too "edgy" of a high end tone to come through.
I put in the Air Zone and problem solved! Still ample highs but without the grating "edge". Also mids and lows are more apparent and with a sweeter tone overall, IMO. Even pinch harmonics have sweetness to them that were a pleasant surprise. I had read reviews that stated the harmonics are really good on this P/U and I can vouch for that.
Output is not that far below a JB and still plenty for what I play (classic and hard rock...not much metal). And it coil splits well, at least to my ears...not exactly "Fenderish" but retains the fatter tone which I find more usable, esp. for solos.
I can't imagine anyone not liking it unless they just gotta have monster output power.
I still love the JB's in 2 of my other guitars, but you have to match the P/U to the tone woods. The Air Zone was a great match for me in this case.

      A Big Vintage PAF

      By John Lumagui

      from Lexington, KY

Comments about DiMarzio Air Zone DP192 Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

This pickup was a pleasant surprise! I've always liked the BIG sound of the Tone Zone, but it was a little too much for my needs. So when I needed to replace the bridge pickup in my Schecter C1+, I went with the Air Zone. It's got the same big sound of the Tone Zone, but with a vintage output. That gives you ridiculous headroom to add gain and effects. It also cleans up nicely when you back off your picking technique. This one's a keeper! Highly recommended.

Awesome Pickup for Low End tones

      By Samuel Morris

      from Fort Wayne

Comments about DiMarzio Air Zone DP192 Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

I put this pickup into my original Strat, which has become my project guitar. I know that a Strat shouldn't have a humbucker in them but I wanted to see what that was like. And this pickup resorected my guitar. It has a full bodied sound that is just a touch thinner than my Gibson Les Paul, the les is just a bit more round and fuller sounding. Also in this guitar I have the DiMarzio Area pickups, so when its in the 4th position (middle and bridge) it gives this most awesome effect of a emulated wah being cracked on to cut through the mix. I love this pickup and if you are looking for something with more lows rather than high end, you will love it too.

Comments about DiMarzio Air Zone DP192 Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

I bought this pickup for the bridge position of my HSS MIM Strat replacing a PAF Pro. I have a Tone Zone in another guitar and I wanted a similar eq and voicing but needed less output as to not overwhelm my Area 67's in the neck and middle. The Air Zone delivered as promised. I got a thicker tone that warmed up a bright guitar. I did have to play with the pickup height and amp/pedal eq a little to find that sweet spot. However, it wasn't as tricky as finding the sweet spot on my tone zone. All around great pickup!

Comments about DiMarzio Air Zone DP192 Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

This is a great pickup for Jazz in the neck position. Dimarzio recommends this application, which is why I bought this pickup when it went on a significant sale.

I have it installed in a Fender American Standard B-Bender Tele, and it sounds great for Jazz when the amp/modeler settings are right. It's fat and round.

I was a bit worried that the other switch settings on my guitar would be out-of-balance--the neck overpowering the bridge, but that's not the case at all. I have a SD Tele Little '59 in the bridge position, and this matches up well with that. The Air Zone also sounds good for general neck pickup stuff--blues, rock, etc.

          Great pickup

          By BigC-PCN1R

          from Rochester, NY

Comments about DiMarzio Air Zone DP192 Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

I put one of these in the bridge of my SG Supreme. It replaced a 57 Classic I was fairly happy with but wanted something with a little more "meat". The air zone has a great almost vintage voicing with great articulation but enough output and bottom end to get heavy when needed. Also has very lively harmonics. I couldn't be happier. I only wish the gold was in stock so I could throw one in my LP classic custom

          nearly perfect

          By stratjunkie

          from columbus, indiana

Comments about DiMarzio Air Zone DP192 Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

This pickup is awesome! I have only used it in the neck position even though it is typically a bridge pickup. In the neck it is extremely warm. Roll back the ton and you almost get an arch-top jazz sound that I have never been able to get from a solid body. the only flaw is that sometimes I would like a tap more treble but I just pair it with the fred in the bridge and problem solved!
