I recently had my JEM7V modded like the Ibanez EGEN18. At first, the tech had issues getting all the positions to work properly, despite several attempts. The online Dimarzio tech suggested I try the EP1112 5-way switch. After several "experts" informed me that the original JEM switch (VLX91) would be sufficient to accommodate the EGEN18 wiring configuration, I thought the Dimarzio tech was merely making a sales pitch. Out of curiosity and desperation, I ordered the EP1112 from Guitar Center. Long story short, the tech fixed the problem in one day. I highly recommend this switch for extremely complex split-coil wiring configurations, that otherwise can't be done with a regular 5-way switch.
The switch is fantastic conseptually but it doesn't come with any instructions. Once I spent hours tracking down an essential schematic and spent some time understanding the consept (which isn't too complicated) I can see the potential. But somehow no matter what schmatic I use and how much time I spend checking and rechecking the wiring, I can't get the coils to split. Just basic Humbucking so really it was a waste of time and money. Actually, I ended up buying a full set of EMG pickups. I hope I have better luck wiring them.
