  • Decent knob, but be aware of the product description, it does not fit all guitars

As reviewed by Jeff on 12/3/2014

It's a knob... it looks fine, no defects or anything, and it is exactly what I was expecting. Shipping was quick and free to my local GC. So for that I give it 5 stars. Unfortunately it does not fit my Ibanez RG. I wasn't aware there was actually any such thing as an "American" pot, as I thought they were all made overseas, so I didn't pay much attention when it said for "American Split Shaft Potentiometers". Of course I know there are different sized shafts, so really no-one but myself to blame for the mismatch. I just snagged some old speed knobs off of a project guitar (another Ibanez), buffed them out and stuck them on there, and tossed the new one in my parts box, so no big deal. Anyhow, it's a knob, it is as well made as any other knob, and had I matched it up as it was specced, it would probably have fit just fine. So heads up, this will not fit an Ibanez RG (or my old AX), the hole in the knob is too small. I would also note that it feels lighter/less substantial than some older speed knobs as it appears to be plastic rather than the older ones which maybe were acrylic?, and there is no brass insert, just a slotted hole in the knob itself. Eventually I think this would prove to be an inferior design for someone that uses it a lot, as the slots might eventually wear out, maybe not, but it's cheap enough, and it isn't like you would notice that when you are using it. It would be much more helpful if the description for this item specified a shaft diameter, rather than saying "American".... Anyhow, way too long of a review I'm sure... it's a knob, it's as good you could expect for the price, and as always GC rocks the service, selection and delivery.

  • Great if superflous

As reviewed by Ben on 12/2/2009

This item is wonderful, hence the five stars. however it won't change how you play or what people think of you. the reason i like them is the numbers and the ease with which i can go from crankin to muted. speed knob is really an appropriate name but if you know what you're doing any knob can do what this one does. i'm a big fan of the numbers too. i take mental notes for tone and effect, what i want on which song, and the numbers help me keep track of all that.
