With medium output and a very balanced tone, the Area J 5 works equally well with passive and active electronics.

Tech Talk: The Area J 5 is not a high-output pickup, but it has a lot of headroom in terms of dynamic range. It can also be custom-tuned with different control values. 250K controls produce a very round, classic J sound, while 500K controls introduce more attack and treble response.
