DiMarzio DP223 PAF Bridge Humbucker 36th Anniversary Electric Guitar Pickup (430307)
Availability:

Excellent vintage tone with today's tech benefits.

The DiMarzio DP223 PAF bridge position humbucker pickup uses new technology to duplicate the qualities of vintage electric guitar pickups--without sacrificing the presence and open sound of the best vintage humbuckers. This 36th anniversary PAF bridge pickup, a hotter version of the PAF, isn't just for set-neck 24-3/4" scale guitars, but is also an excellent bridge pickup for tremolo-equipped bolt-on neck guitars. There was no such thing as a neck or bridge humbucker in the 1950s, but there was a wide range of performance between individual pickups that made some better suited to one position. Some of the old pickups had a lot of wire on the coils, which created more power and a warmer tone. Want to go totally retro? The DiMarzio DP223 PAF Bridge pickup in standard spacing is also available with authentic vintage bobbins in glossy black, glossy double cream or glossy black and cream zebra; vintage "Patent Applied For" long-legged nickel-silver base, 1-conductor cable and your choice of polished and plated or vintage worn cover. The 36th anniversary DiMarzio DP223 pickup is recommended for: Bridge position, can also be used in neck position with hotter bridge models.Tech Talk: The DiMarzio PAF bridge pickup has the best qualities of the Virtual PAF bridge and Virtual Hot PAF pickups and then some. It's as loud as the VHPAF but has as much low-end and midrange definition as the VPAF bridge model. The highs are actually bigger and smoother than either model. The 4-conductor version also splits very well. Single-coil mode is bright, but not at all sterile-sounding.

  • Dimarzio PAF Pickups

As reviewed by kw on 12/3/2008

I replaced the hign output pups in a new Epi SG with the PAF's and with some tweaking got the tone and sustain that was missing for me. I just couldn't get the hotter pickups tuned in, so I knew I couldn't lose with the standard humbuckers natural range for my taste. Now, this guitar sounds as sexy as it looks!

  • DP223F for Fender Strat

As reviewed by Thanh Tran on 3/19/2010

Replacing the SeymourDuncan Pearly Gates of my Fender Deluxe HSS, the DP223F is really smoother than the stock humbucker, the highs are not as harsh as SD P.Gates, the mids more pronounced and the lows are tighter. Pickups tone are usually a personal taste, but this Dimarzio DP223 works well with trem bridge and bolt-on neck guitar like strat, making a warmer sound with balanced low-mid-high. Very good for blues, jazz, even hard rock.

  • Dimarzio Dp223 36th anniversary paf

As reviewed by jeff on 11/8/2010

I bought this over two years ago and never installed it because i had sold the guitar. I recently purchased a 2005 highway one stratocaster and installed it in this guitar witha gibson 500k volume pot. Instantly the first time i played it through a 1974 fender twin amp, it was tone i was looking for but never found in countless les pauls i owned. I sold them all and kept this stratocaster not because the money but for the tone. Becareful when installing because the wiring for dimarzio is different from duncan pu the black & white are soldered together and the red is the hot to the control & the green & bare wire are the ground. If you wire it like a duncan it is so dam brite it will shatter your teeth. I i get a les paul again i would not hesistate in replacing the pu with two of these dp223.It has a warm woody tone with a smooth blusey tone reminds me of zeppelin amped up blues through a marshall stack.
