  • Great pickup for tele neck

As reviewed by Great clean pickup on 8/16/2006

I bought a Yamaha Pacifica 311MS (tele style, humbucker neck, single- bridge) off Ebay as a project guitar. I wanted an trandsparent orange guitar and this fit the bill. It had a Duncan Design humbucker pickup in the neck, but I was really looking for something more single-coil sounding. I almost looked past this pickup because of the name, but after reading the reviews, I decided to give it a try. It's a great pickup. Just like it says, it's very clear and clean sounding, like a tele neck pickup, but without the hum. I love it.

  • Clear, Single-Coil sound in a Humbucker!

As reviewed by Laika on 10/27/2006

I picked-up one of these a while back for the neck position of an Ibanez JS100. It has a clear, bright tone, with just enough hint of a smooth humbucker. This pickups has a great clean sound. I like the fact that the DiMarzio line of pickups has kept their prices down, as well. This would be a good pickup for anyone who wants single-coil-type tone in a humbucker-equipped guitar, and sounds great when used with a traditional bridge humbucker.

  • Humbucker From Hell

As reviewed by ARCHIE KEELE on 12/16/2011

I love my PRS CU22 but I have never really meshed with the neck position pick up. I have tried many different types in the neck and just never found what I was looking for. I wanted a clear, non muddy sounding pick up to contrast my Super Distortion in the bridge. I use a Randall RM100 into a Marshall JCM900 1960A cab. I use a Top Boost, Plexi and a JCM800 pre amp modules with EL34 power tubes. I like a variety of jazz, blues, rock, classic rock, hard rock and metal. As with most mahogany backed, maple topped set mahogany necks this one is mud heavy when in the neck position. The pick up is installed in a Duncan Triple Shot ring to allow for custom switching (I Recommend!). This pick up has a clear, solid, balanced tone when in parallel. Switch it to the north or south coil and it sounds like a nice single coil. If you switch it into a series it becomes almost acoustic like, with chime, jingle with clear non muddy bass. With the coil cut it gives the CU a near strat qualities. I just love that! I can play a sweet clean passage on the neck and then switch to the Super D and slam a nice power chord with authority! It came with Dragon II's. I liked the bridge but I am hooked on the Super Distortion in the bridge. I tried a Vintage Bass which was ok but just wasn't "it". I also tried a P-Rail, whick is a great pick up as well but just wasn't "it" for me either. In summary: The Humbucker From Hell is one heck of a unique pick up that is also a sleeper. If you want a clear neck pick up for a mahogany body guitar that is not muddy than look no farther!
