NEW REVIEW - 80's Metal

If you're into 80's Metal and is looking for a PU that cleans up nicely when volume is rolled back and provides full, balanced tone with lots of harmonics when used with an overdriven tube amp, this is the PU for you.

Great Sound

The Dimarzio Super Distortion is a great hard rock and Heavy Metal pickup. I hooked one up in one of my gutars and it sounds great. I play alot of Iron Maiden, and Y and T, and it gives me great tone for these styles of music. I put a PAF Pro in the neck and the combo is Fantastic. I like both of these pickups better than the Dimarzio PAF Joe and Mo' Joe I put in my Ibanez JS100.

Raw Power!

The Super Distortion is one mean pup. I first got it eight months ago when I got a new Jackson DK2 Dinky. The main reason I bought it was that it was the pup in Randy Rhoads' polka-dot V. I play through the UK 80's channel on a Vox Valvetronix half stack with a DOD-YJM308 in front, and I get a great, raw 80's metal sound. When I roll the volume knob down to about 5, instant Rush prog rock sound, just add the chorus. On higher gain channels, this thing gets real aggressive with chugging palm mutes, but that's not really my style. The leads are super smooth and everything has excellent definition, no mud. The harmonics are great, they just leap out, making for excellent whammy bar tricks. The only other pickup I have personally tried that had pinch harmonics to rival this pup is the Seymour Duncan Dimebucker, which I have in another guitar but find a bit too trebly. On the clean channel I had to roll back the volume to avoid grit, but hey, it's not called a Super Distortion for nothing. Overall, this pickup is a jack of all trades for anything rock.

Satisfied

I actually put this pick up in the bridge position of an old pawn shop telecaster and put an Seymour Duncan invader in the neck position (along w/ floyd Rose locking trem). I was disappointed in the Duncan's muddy distortion. The only saving grace was this DiMarzio Super Distortion which allows for fantastic shred work w/out being too treble-ly so to speak. The Harmonics are awesome w/out being too touchy / sensitive. This is by far one of the best p/ups I have ever used.

DiMarzio Super Distortion Pickup

This is great for the price. It has a flexible sound and sounds great. I prefer this to the Seymour Duncan SH6.
