I just installed this into a used Yamaha along with 3 new Dimarzio PUPs. The sounds I am able to achieve are just awesome! The combination's made available through this switch are almost overwhelming! The switch is simple to install, the wiring though can be tricky. Study the switch diagram and the PUPs you plan to use BEFORE you plug in your soldering iron! Create a wiring diagram to create the PUP combination's you want. All of the major PUP manufactures have diagrams available on their websites and there is a host of guidelines on the web. This is a great high-quality switch but I can't over emphasize doing your homework before installing. Good luck!

  • Good 2 Humbucker Switch

As reviewed by Sir Jamsalot on 6/9/2011

This switch, if you have a wiring diagram for the configuration you want, is really easy to install in an Ibanez RG model. I haven't tried it in other guitars. The wiring diagram does not come with the switch, but when you think about it - why would it? They can't read your mind as to whether you have 1 volume, 2 tones, an on off switch, a coil tap volume knob, or what positions you intend to use... let alone what wire colors are hot/ground for your particular pickup - they do differ from brand to brand. BUT! If you email DiMarzio's tech support team telling them what configuration you intend to use, and what pickups you have, they are really good at getting back to you within a day with a wiring diagram that will meet your needs. I bought a cheapo guitar along with some DiMarzio pickups, and initially replaced the switch with a StewMac-P 5 way switch - I then contacted DiMarzio telling them what configuration I wanted and they told me that switch wouldn't give me the configuraiton I wanted and recommended this one. They sent me a wiring diagram for both though, and within 8 hours! Visit ckdesignsdotcom and search for "2 Wiring Diagrams". Anyways, I'm really pleased with their support and their switch. Easy if you know what goes where.

  • Nice but complicated

As reviewed by Mike on 2/18/2010

The switch is fantastic conseptually but it doesn't come with any instructions. Once I spent hours tracking down an essential schematic and spent some time understanding the consept (which isn't too complicated) I can see the potential. But somehow no matter what schmatic I use and how much time I spend checking and rechecking the wiring, I can't get the coils to split. Just basic Humbucking so really it was a waste of time and money. Actually, I ended up buying a full set of EMG pickups. I hope I have better luck wiring them.
