I love the Denon MCX 8000 and the freedom to not use a laptop. The use of the USB is great for practicing and truly learning to beat match via a controller, without having to use a laptop and just lining up waveforms. Just make sure that you analyze the files via the Engine software and move them to the USB first. You can still play songs via a flash drive if they have not been analyzed in Engine. The one thing I would change is to not have the mirror layout. The BPM range is easy to knock on the left side if you scratch or move the platter slightly and are not paying close attention.

The unit works great with serato. after running for a few hours and deciding to connect to back to serato from engine I did experience having to disconnect the unit from the laptop and restart serato. (Not sure if it was serato 1.9 as It did have issues connecting to serato 1.9 a couple times when first turning on). I also have Serato 1.8.2 and I will play more with that to test things out.

I also have a pioneer (SX2) unit and I love the flexibility of using either the flash drives or the computer via the MCX 8000. Platters work great...just make sure you know the sensitivity level you need and you can change that via the utilities screen on the Denon MCX 8000. Love having the ability to change the settings right on the MCX 8000 via the screens.

Overall, I would buy again and I enjoy playing on it.

I really wanted to like this unit but unfortunately it is plagued by the poorly written Engine software from Denon. Which you are mostly forced to used if you want to USB sticks in standalone mode, which was the main selling point for me. I thought I'd finally found the perfect all-in-one DJ controller I'd been looking for. It has the flexibility to play with or without a laptop, 4 channels, good sound and overall build quality, and more.

Unfortunately poor software and firmware plagues the machine with screen freezes and audio drops. Denon has promised firmware updates to address these issues but that statement was made 10 months ago which doesn't instill a lot of confidence in me that a solution will actually be coming. I could potentially see myself revisiting a purchase of the unit if these issues are in fact addressed or an MCX-8000 mk2 is announced. It's a well laid out controller with great features. But none of those things matter if I cant rely on the thing to make it through a set.

If you're mostly using it as a controller for Serato, you might be fine. I only had a few issues on that side and I was able to work them out. But the standalone mode needs work.

          Design.
Decks should be identical. The pitch, play, cue, loop, etc; should be in the same place on both sides of the controller.

Unit is solid. Well done Denon! I'm sure later versions will bring other improvements.

I've been having issues right from the start and support just wants to put blame on my PC. I have a brand new computer with absolutely nothing on it but customer support doesn't seem to really care. So now I get to just use it w/o Serato features which unfortunately was a big feature. Its all standalone version for me now which means I have to use their Engine software which will be obsolete by the end of 2018. Save just a couple more hundred dollars and go all out on Pioneer products. That's unfortunately the realization I had to come to.....:(

Comments about Denon MCX8000 DJ Controller:

Very unreliable in stand alone mode. All kinds of problems. Cuts out a lot. Engine, the software they make you use, is glitchy and it analyzes the tracks incorrectly. At one point it wouldn't even read my USB drives. We gave up and used it as a controller with Serato. It worked pretty well other than the two times it just started cutting out for no reason. It's possible I got a defect. I spent a week with tech support before they gave up and had me send it in. They think it's some kind of firmware issue. I've installed Engine on three different computers and it is glitchy on all of them. If you need help with yours, call tech support. The guy I contacted online ended up blowing me off. I'm not the only one with problems with Engine. Everyone I've talked to that uses it is having problems. Don't be fooled, this thing is nothing more than a really cool controller.

Very good controller, size and weight have never been an issue with me, i grew up using technics 1200, and they are neither light nor small. When looking for audio equipment, be it amps, speakers, turn tables, etc., the heavier the unit is, is usually a sign of quality and durability.
