The Denon DN-S3700 Direct Drive Turntable Media Player and Controller is a solid, single-deck portable DJ instrument that provides working DJs with a host of useful features for enhanced creative flexibility. Most notably, thanks to its large 9" spinning platter design, the DN-S3700 literally offers the "best of both worlds" from both digital and analog realms. In addition to a host of advanced digital features, including USB and MIDI control, the sleek and elegant media player includes a built-in authentic vinyl record for surface control driven by Denon DJ's High Torque Direct Drive motor. This provides users with the classic and unmistakable feel of true vinyl.
High Torque Direct Drive Motor & Spinning Platter Design
Denon's proprietary 12-pole Direct Drive brushless motor design is keeping the art of the 110-year-old turntable alive & true to its native feel, delivering instant, full-rotation speed with a powerful 2.5 kg/cm of start-up torque within 0.5 seconds for true turntable reaction and response. DJs can perform freely on this 9" platter design mounted with a real vinyl record as if they were using a genuine analog turntable. Platter rotation can be changed between 33 and 45 RPM for comfort.
Fast Loading Slot-In Drive
The illuminated, fast-loading, quick-reading slot-in drive reads and supports standard compact audio discs and MP3 discs in a variety of formats: CD, CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM. Compact Disc CD-TEXT and MP3 ID3 Tags on CD-ROM are also displayed.
USB Device Hosting
With easy access to the Internet these days, many DJs are shopping from home, purchasing their music collection online and storing these files on to a hard drive. The DN-S3700 is well equipped for the modern DJ and conveniently supports external USB mass storage class devices (USB Hubs are not supported). Connect your iPod (mass storage class iPods only), thumb drive, and large hard drives for easy access to your small or extensive MP3/WAV libraries up to 50,000 files. Simply plug any one of these devices into the Denon DN-S3700 to obtain the powerful on-board features such as, Instant Start, Auto Looping, Hot Starts, Effects, 8 ways to file search, and so much more.
MIDI Interface Controller (PC/MAC)
The DN-S3700 is also designed to interface & control a variety of popular audio/video DJ software applications that support USB MIDI interface, either by user-custom mapping or direct native support by the software vendor. Control your favorite DJ software all from one clever compact player. Supported platforms include Mac OSX 10.4 or higher, Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista.
Internal 24-Bit Processing & USB Audio-(sound card)
Unlike most dedicated DJ MIDI controllers that are only USB bus-powered, the DN-S3700 encompasses its own internal power supply to achieve the highest electrical specifications, resulting in best possible audio performance. It features high-end Burr Brown (a product of Texas Instruments) 24-bit DAC processing for superior output audio fidelity. The USB Audio interface includes 2-channel stereo output pair, 44.1kHz sampling range and low-latency ASIO/OSX Core Audio support. An ASIO driver is included on the installation CD-ROM.
5 Superb Built-in DSP Effects
Building the mood, adding energy, and remixing live for your thumping dancefloor has never been so easy with our crystal clear on-board DSP effects. Easily activate and have full parameter adjustments with a unique dry/wet mix control of the BPM sync'd effects: Flanger, Filter (High-Mid-Low), Echo, and Denon DJ's exclusive Echo Loop.
Waveform Display w/ Multi-line Text & Icon Support
Another unique quality of the Denon DN-S3700 is its informative & animated FL tube display mounted elegantly at a proper angle for best visualization. The Waveform function is a representation of the audio signal pattern,
which indicates various energy peaks within the music file. Additionally, a break-point area can be pre-determined and viewed on the S3700 display. Both the waveform and breakpoint data can be set when using external USB devices by using the included Denon DJ Music Manager PC application. A visual 32-position Marker Point indicator follows your hand movements at lightning speeds without drift. Other indicators include Looping, Hot Starts, BPM info, Elapsed/Remain Time, MP3/WAV file types, and other useable indicators. Only FAT, FAT16, and FAT32 file formatted USB devices are supported by the player.

This player, though not the standard in the US (Pioneer is), was one of the most advanced players to hit the market when it came out. Most of its advanced features are only starting to appear on the flagship Pioneer players. In CD mode, the player is superb. The platter motor is strong, torquey and tight. You can actually turntablize with it. It is the closest imitator of vinyl mode that you can get without using actual 1200s. But in this digital day and age, the player really shines as a midi controller. It can be programmed via mapping files or there are certain software that support it natively. Traktor does not, but I was able to locate mapping files via the Denon forums. You can program all of the buttons and the pitch slider to specific functions, giving you absolute control of the software. Overall, I would give this player a 10 in terms of reliability and performance. The CD/USB option are great in case of laptop failure. For mobile use, the players stand out and make a rig look a top notch.
Bought two of these. They are amazing decks that DO IT ALL... Midi, Usb, & cd... Great effects to boot... One word sums it all up... AMAZING
Where to start...Buy them! Ok, more details. I have owned two of these for a while now and feel comfortable writing this review. There isn't anything in the market right now that compares to the S3700's features and price(you know whom I'm talking about). These decks are set to take over. I love the built in effects and 3 banks for hotcues and 3 banks for loops. I'm an old vinyl DJ and made the transition about 4 years testing all sorts of gear and this is my favorite. These decks can interface with your software as they have a built in sound card and can be midid mapped. I love the feel of the vinyl and the scratch effect output. I've been video djing lately and these are great for that. You can connect a hard drive, insert a cd, connect flash memory, or directly into your software. They work great with traktor and Virtual DJ as well as Serato(of course unlike serato, I don't need any other hardware). The best part about the s3700 is the price with all these features I'm surprised it doesn't cost more. I have my two 3700's in a club setting connected to a Denon DN-X1600 mixer(great setup...made for each other). Remember as with vinyl, if you don't take care of them, the vinyl plate will warped, but easily replacement. You can even customize the vinyl with color vinyls or glow in the dark ones. If you ever feel confused, call Denon, they've taken care of me. Trust me don't be afraid to call them, I did. Too many things on it that my brain overloaded :-). Have fun with them!
I purchased a pair of these Denons the first month available. After starting with an old school "DJ in a box" vinyl kit over 10 years ago, Ive seen and used a wide variety of dj equipment. Like many other dj's who reluctantly made the digital transition in dj'ing, I came to accept, even grew to like Pion33r's offerings-the CDJ line, even owning CDJ 1000s for several years. After having a go at Denon's earlier attempts in the vinyl emulating cd turntable arena, I always came away with lukewarm feelings. The hardware seemed well built, but plagued with software issues, and a small vinyl jogwheel that was too sensitive. Now, after over a year of using the 3700's I'm glad to say Denon has finally created a winner at a winning price. The build quality is outstanding, the interface is very customizable and easy to use. Highly intuitive. Denon has done a very professional job in keeping up with regular firmware updates to keep these decks running smoothly, and there is talk of expanding midi support for various DVS systems. It's very handy being able to spin directly off of thumb drives, and hard drives etc if you don't use a DVS. Being an old school vinyl dj though, the main reason I bought these is for the large vinyl jogwheel, which also, Denon nailed in perfect fashion. "The big P" just can't offer that. I have, and continue to highly recommend these turntables! Club owners should also take note... Please make these the new standard in your venues!
I just bought a pair of these almost two weeks ago. I've been doing my research on CDJ's and found that these were the best ones that I've seen. I was going to Pioneer's which is the standard industry, but I believe Denon is on top with their DJ mixers and CDJ's. I rock with these CDJ's with a Hercules RMX and timecode cd's. So far I love the feature of these 3700's.
