It works but some details were "left out"

By G Hall

from Mayfield Village, OH

Comments about Denon DN-HD2500 Hard Disk Media Player/Controller:

Just got the Denon DN-HD2500 as a gift. It is possible that my current criticisms can be attributed to the fact that I am totally unfamiliar with this line of products. I basically want to entertain my family and friends on special occasions so Iۡm not trying to make a living doing this. I liked the idea of not having to wait for my current 200 disc CD changer to moan and click and moan between each song, with this Iۡm able to fluidly go from one track to another. Oh wait, no I canۡt, they leave out that you also need a MIXER in order to fade from one song to another (or one side of the component to the other). The mixer will also have other neat features you need like volume control, mike inputs, etc. Because of the looks of it on-line and all those fancy buttons, I (like an idiot) assumed a cross fader and volume controls were amongst them. I love the hard drive, and the capacity seems great for my usage. Another fine detail that they didnۡt stress, is that the deck only downloads MP3ۡs. Not Itune normal settings or wavۡs, etc. Of course, I have 500 albums in my Itunes library that are not compatible with the requirements of the deck, so after trying to use software to convert the m4aۡs and wmvۡs into mp3ۡs, it still didnۡt work ( the song would go, but not the artist, track name, etc.). So, Iۡll spend the next few months reloading my CD collection on my computer into the mp3 format it likes best. The instruction booklet was amazingly worthless given its size and thickness, and because itۡs so new, no one in the two stores that sold it in my town knew anything about it. For you other literal readers out there, it is not an ۡ̏all in one portable DJ centerۡݕ_. The Music manager program is picky about what it uses, and is not intuitive at all. If all of your music is already ۡ̏in your computerۡݕ_ and not in mp3 format, I havenۡt found a way to get it properly in the hard drive. However, once the music is in, and its hooked up to the other stuff you need, it works great!! All in all, I think the ultimate positive will outweigh the negatives.

It Does Exactly What It Says It Does

By Ron

from Nebraska

Comments about Denon DN-HD2500 Hard Disk Media Player/Controller:

Three stars because somebody thought they were buying a rack mounted iPod is totally unfair. Complaining about buying it & not realizing you need a mixer is like buying an electric guitar & complaining that you need a guitar amp. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the hard drive is so small. You can hook an external hard drive to it, but there are other USB devices too choose from that don't cost as much. So for the price the reason you would choose this is because of the internal hard. I highly recommend this for any mobile DJ who wants to add a versatile hard drive in their rack to complement their DN-D4500.

Denon hd2500

By Steve

from Marlborough ma

Comments about Denon DN-HD2500 Hard Disk Media Player/Controller:

I thought the denon hd2500 is really great. I use it in midi mode alot and its wonderful. I love that you can scratch, beatmix and the built in sound card. When I beatmix, I am not usally not the best but when I got this unit it made my mixes more tighter and better. Its a must have. The only thing that I dont like about it is that, my copy of VDJ's mapper for the unit is messed up and I can not find anywhere to download it. Also the built in sound card sounds bad when you max it out on your mixer. So I suggest not to do so.

HD 2500 Great DJ Equipment

By Steve

from Cincinnati, Ohio

Comments about Denon DN-HD2500 Hard Disk Media Player/Controller:

If you are a professional DJ then this unit works extremely well. If you have the Denon 4000 or 4500 deck then it's wonderful. I have used the Cortex, Numark and the Denon. They all work well. I personally prefer the Numark due to the crate function but for the price, you can't beat this. Solid, only issue is the power on switch (can't get to it once it's rack mounted) and only one USB. I'm assuming a new unit is coming out.

Now What Was Expected

By Rick Creel

from Cashiers, NC

Comments about Denon DN-HD2500 Hard Disk Media Player/Controller:

I asked Guitar Center and was recommended this. I't wasn't what I described. It does do quite a bit, but there are some issues. The power button and USB ports are in a ridiculous location, once it's mounted in a rack. The User manuals are not that good. If you don't have some knowledge of a system like this, don't expect to find it all in the manauls. The interface is OK, but nothing to write home about. You do need a mixer with this, fortunately we have, especially if you're wanting to que another bank. As a result, there are no headphone jacks on this. I was looking for a much simpler device that would have these features built in. I'm not going to change becuase I do have other equipment, but this is not what I wanted. I was looking for a sleeker, inclusive device for quicker, easier set up. This is not it.
