A resonator back provides more projection of sound in the Goodtime 2. It's made here in the USA, at the Deering shop with the same tooling used to make the top-of-the-line banjos. Greg Deering designed the Goodtime banjos because there were no low-priced banjos of enough quality for people to actually learn on without difficulty or giving up. He remembers what it was like to want a good banjo and not be able to afford one, so his gift to others is the Goodtime banjo line.

Designed for success, the Goodtime banjos are amongst the lowest-priced American-made banjos ever made. They are so good, many professionals have recorded with Goodtime banjos. The Goodtime 2 weighs 6lb., about the weight of a guitar. The Goodtime 2 has a natural blond maple satin finish to protect it. If you want a great low-priced bluegrass banjo for travel and leisure that plays correctly and is durable, this is a great buy.

For a punchy, hard-driving bluegrass tone, the Deering Goodtime 2 Banjo uses a rock maple neck and resonator, and a birch and maple rim. The slender and fast-playing neck with all geared tuners creates a banjo that is easy to tune, to maintain and to play. Standard 11" head. The Goodtime 2 Banjo is handmade in the USA.

Has a bright sound of maple that projects well.
Easy to play with clarity of note separation.

G,D,G,B,D in standard G tuning.

Deering banjos with the lifetime warranty are only available through authorized Deering Dealers.

IF YOU BUY A "NEW" DEERING BANJO FROM A NON-AUTHORIZED DEALER, YOU HAVE PURCHASED A USED BANJO AND HAVE NO WARRANTY. When we send a Deering banjo to an authorized dealer, only that dealer or another authorized dealer can sell that banjo as new. If an authorized dealer sells a new Deering banjo to a non-authorized dealer, the non authorized dealer becomes the first owner and he becomes the bearer of the lifetime warranty; not a new dealer by transfer. When the unauthorized dealer sells that banjo to the consumer, even if it was never played or even touched, it is a used instrument and no longer carries the lifetime warranty. This is necessary so that we know how the banjo has been cared for between the time we ship it and the time that our customers buy it. We have no way of knowing how non-authorized dealers care for their instruments because we do not communicate with them. This also honors and protects the strong relationship between Deering and its treasured network of hard working Deering dealers. For your protection against theft and to ensure immediate proof of ownership, four digits of the serial number are visible on the back of the peghead on each banjo. The full serial number is inside the resonator. When you purchase a Deering banjo and send in the warranty card you will receive a Gold Credit card style ownership/warranty card. This gold card is embossed with your name and the serial number of your new banjo for easy identification. Take your Gold Card with you to festivals or when traveling so that if your banjo is ever stolen you can easily prove it's yours.

A great banjo for the beginner or pro

By Jaybo377

from Prestonsburg, KY

Comments about Deering The Goodtime 2 Banjo:

Deering really knows how to make a banjo and the Goodtime 2 banjo is no exception. This banjo plays and sounds as good as much more expensive models. This banjo has a really loud sound and the neck plays really smooth. I would recommend this banjo to anyone.

Great Banjo!

By swj92

from Nashville, TN

Comments about Deering The Goodtime 2 Banjo:

This banjo is great for a beginer and someone who already knows how to play. The quality of this guitar is better than the regular goodtime, because it gives you a live sound. The goodtime 2 banjo is 10 times better than any other deering. One thing I love is the resinator. The features on this banjo are amasing. If you want a quality banjo this is the one for you.

Goodtime 2

By Casey

from Mentor, OH

Comments about Deering The Goodtime 2 Banjo:

I love this banjo! I am a total banjo novice but find this instrument to be perfect for learning. The sound quality is better for bluegrass than old time, but taking the resonator off is always an option.

I like it

By Jason

from Chula Vista , CA

Comments about Deering The Goodtime 2 Banjo:

My first banjo, and I'm well pleased with its construction. The action is easy to play on and it stays in tune. No buzzing on any frets. Deering obviously has high standards for their products, and if you visit their website and view their higher-end banjos, youll see that these people are craftsmen, and making banjos is their "thing". I bought the Goodtime because it was the cheapest Deering I could find(it IS my first banjo,..) and I am not dissapointed.

Outstanding value

By Henry Garcia

from Houston, TX

Comments about Deering The Goodtime 2 Banjo:

I'm a long-time guitar player who started banjo a few months ago with a Fender FB-54 banjo. The quality of construction on the Goodtime 2 is superior; the tone is excellent; the action light and quick. Although it's not pretty (satin finish, no fancy inlays), the money goes into quality design, materials, and construction. The results is a sound that makes this Goodtime 2 banjo truly beautiful in my eyes. This instrument meets Deering's goal of providing an affordable, quality banjo for beginners. I recommend this for anyone who is starting out (wish I had bought this first...) or any player wanting a less expensive instrument for travel. This won't be the last Deering I purchase.

Excellent Beginner Banjo

By Niko Kovacevic

from State College, PA

Comments about Deering The Goodtime 2 Banjo:

This is the first banjo that I have owned and it has exceeded all of my expectations over the first six months. The sound is crisp, bright and clear with fantastic projection from the maple body and resonator. It is perfect for learning Scruggs-style, three-finger picking bluegrass tunes. It stays in-tune well, though I would advise buying a nice electric tuner and tuning before each session. Every part feels solid and, even after a couple of months playing every day, I haven't needed to fix or service anything. Aesthetically the instrument is beautiful and has no visual defects. Furthermore, the Deering travel case that I bought with it works brilliantly and makes travelling with the banjo much more convenient. Overall, I highly recommend this instrument to anyone (especially beginners) and have had no trouble whatsoever.

nothing but fun!

By Jon lowe

from Carson City, NV

Comments about Deering The Goodtime 2 Banjo:

Purchased this banjo after several months of researching and examining many banjos of many brands. This was the best recommended banjo for beginners out there and at the best price plus being American Made. I have been playing guitar for over 25 years so I am no stranger to music. Found it very easy to adapt to playing the banjo and have been having nothing but fun sense I got The Goodtime 2. It deserves a 5 star rating and I recommend it for all and any who want to start playing the banjo.

Great Banjo

By Timothy Stafford

from Pembroke Pines FL

Comments about Deering The Goodtime 2 Banjo:

Totally new to the Banjo but I have enjoyed this every much. It plays well and keeps it's tune well. The strings are easily played. If you have any experience with the guitar you should be able to carry that over to the banjo. Finger picking will come with a little practice (USE THE METRONOME!). Within a week I was able to do the forward and backward roll as well as an alternating roll. I am having fun with it and hope to be able to use it on stage with the next few months. It looks good and plays good and to my ear it sounds good. Can't go wrong for the price. I chose it over it's comparable fender model because it's made in the USA and I think it looks nicer. Order the bag/case with it and get some good finger picks --- DON"T FORGET THE STRAP. Get a good strap.

Great Banjo for beginner!

By Paul Horgash

from Schererville, IN

Comments about Deering The Goodtime 2 Banjo:

I bought this for a beginner banjo student, she loved it and has good action on the neck. I wish there were markings on the neck for the 12th fret. Otherwise, its great for anyone just starting up.

Comments about Deering The Goodtime 2 Banjo:

I'm in my 50's and decided to take up the banjo. I did a lot of research on which banjo to buy. Once I decided on a banjo with a resonator (not open back) I started paying a lot of attention to the Deering Goodtime 2. It's a little more than I initially wanted to spend, but I figured this would not only be a good instrument to learn on but a quality instrument that would stand the test of time. I had it delivered to the GC store near me, thinking I may need some help setting it up. Right out of the box, it sounded beautiful and required no adjustments. The GC technician was amazed at the quality for the price and asked me ,"Do we sell these?" I guess he'd never seen one before. I've had it for a month and I'm enjoying it immensely. Do not hesitate to buy one!
