Overview

A maple, prewar style bluegrass banjo made like the classic banjos of the 1930's with the same materials and the same weight, design and features, the Golden Era is one of Deering's most popular banjos for traditional bluegrass bands. If you're looking for that classic bluegrass banjo tone and look - this is the banjo for you. Adorned with a traditional hearts & flowers inlay pattern, this banjo has the appearance and feel of the prized banjos from the 1930's. It is designed to produce the most sought-after sound, a sound previously only achieved by five-string banjos of the pre-war era. This beautiful banjo has a Genuine Deering -06- 20-hole bell bronze tone ring. The drum assembly and neck shape are designed for the traditional crisp and strong bass notes as well as the distinct clear high tones of the cherished bluegrass sound.

A powerhouse banjo with a superbly crafted traditional tone and appearance. The 20-hole tone ring, traditional flange, 3-ply rock maple rim, deep resonator, and slightly thicker neck re-create the classic banjos of the 1930s. The Cremona violin sunburst stain enhances the beautiful curly maple neck and the resonator's volume and timbre. Hearts-and-flowers mother-of-pearl inlays on the ebony fingerboard and double-cut peg head meld traditional style with Deering's world-renowned quality.

Tone:
The Golden Era has a larger air chamber like the Tenbrooks banjos which gives the banjos a more resonant hollow sound with deep bass response for a traditional prewar bluegrass sound. Clear, bright highs and resonant deep bass notes.

MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY
Deering banjos with the lifetime warranty are only available through authorized Deering Dealers.

IF YOU BUY A "NEW" DEERING BANJO FROM A NON-AUTHORIZED DEALER, YOU HAVE PURCHASED A USED BANJO AND HAVE NO WARRANTY. When we send a Deering banjo to an authorized dealer, only that dealer or another authorized dealer can sell that banjo as new. If an authorized dealer sells a new Deering banjo to a non-authorized dealer, the non authorized dealer becomes the first owner and he becomes the bearer of the lifetime warranty; not a new dealer by transfer. When the unauthorized dealer sells that banjo to the consumer, even if it was never played or even touched, it is a used instrument and no longer carries the lifetime warranty. This is necessary so that we know how the banjo has been cared for between the time we ship it and the time that our customers buy it. We have no way of knowing how non-authorized dealers care for their instruments because we do not communicate with them. This also honors and protects the strong relationship between Deering and its treasured network of hard working Deering dealers. For your protection against theft and to ensure immediate proof of ownership, four digits of the serial number are visible on the back of the peghead on each banjo. The full serial number is inside the resonator. When you purchase a Deering banjo and send in the warranty card you will receive a Gold Credit card style ownership/warranty card. This gold card is embossed with your name and the serial number of your new banjo for easy identification. Take your Gold Card with you to festivals or when traveling so that if your banjo is ever stolen you can easily prove it's yours.

Comments about Deering 5-Golden Era 5-String Banjo:

This banjo is in a similar price category to the Calico so I will be referencing that here and there. The banjo construction, fit, and finish are flawless. Just like the Calico it is a visually stunning banjo (all of the more expensive Deering banjos I've had so far have not disappointed in this regard). The tone of banjo is definitely different than the Calico. It has a more traditional banjo sound than the Calico (I actually prefer the tone of the Calico, but it's a subjective thing). If you are looking for a banjo with a more familiar sound you will probably want to take this one over the Calico. Also, the neck profile is more like what I am accustomed to as compared to the majority of other banjos. It is a very heavy banjo as expected of such caliber instruments and is built like a rock. It is a perfectly suitable quality of banjo for most any level of playing that may be thrown its way from beginner to professional (though a beginner may want to start with a less expensive banjo if unsure whether he/she will stick with it).

    Scoring
    Sound - 9/10
    Playability - 9/10
    Fit and finish - 9/10
    Appearance - 9/10
    Durability - 10/10

Definitely a solid choice if you are serious about banjo playing.
