It's a great but, simple. The one pickup has a variety on tones. The neck is thin and easy to get around. Tuners feel nice and mine hasn't gotten out of tune yet. And I've been playing pretty much non stop for a week. It also plays harmonics great. So if you want a reliable bass that will accompany your needs from beginner to expert and won't leave you bankrupt. This is for you.

I remember when I first got this bass .. Man was I in love .. With the color, style, neck, and especially the price on this type of guitar. Now that I've been playing for almost a year iam no longer a beginner .. now for having this for so long I have problems now like it loses tune fast, and it gets a little to rattaley at times. So this is why I say FOR BEGGINERS ONLY untill you upgrade into a better one .. Other than that the bass isn't that bad

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

Really impressed with the bass. After tuning played well right out of the box without any major adjustments. I would recommend purchasing. It is a very good beginner mid level bass. I would even play it at some of those shows where you really don't want to take a chance with expensive gear.

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

I use this product mainly for practice and writing. I recommend this over the other basses in the price range for style, playing, and balance but in terms of sound a P-Bass might beat the tone by a hair. Once I get the EQ set with basics effects the tone can be deep, with great highs. I'd say it best suits rock and heavy metal.

    Drop C

    By Jill McLaughlin

    from Baltimore, Maryland

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

This is an excellent bass for the price and far better than a equivalently priced Squier Precision as a beginner bass. A couple buzzy frets were easily taken care of with a few minor string height/saddle adjustments. My primary reason for purchasing the Dean was the need for a bass to keep in drop C tuning (tuned CGCF)for a handful of metal tunes at gigs. I replaced the strings with a heavy gauge set of GHS Boomers (50-115) to handle the lower string tension (be careful, the 115 barely fit through the bridge string slot at the ball end winding, I used the tuner to wind it through the rest of the way). The high output of the pickup is a dead match for the output on most of my active pickup basses, sounds great with a mix of distortion or clean (MXR DI with distortion and/or the overdrive on an Acoustic 260 MKII mini stack), sounds and works well for picking or finger style, but a rather mediocre tone for slapping, the neck heel can be a bit of a challenge when reaching for those uppermost frets (oh well, still a great deal). The rest of my band members love the sound of this bass and one sound engineer at a gig thought it was the best sounding bass out of 4 basses I played that evening. I would highly recommend the Dean Zone XM to anyone just starting to play or anyone that needs a backup/alternate tuning bass in their arsenal. I may end buying another to keep in standard tuning.

    An Unexpected Find

    By Reid Austin

    from Chattanooga, TN

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

I got this bass about 5 years ago because the one I had before just plain died, tuning pegs were shot, jack was falling out, it was just time. I went to Guitar Center the same day as our Youth Conference at our church to get a new bass to use that night. I usually play guitar, so I didn't want to spend a lot on a new bass..For $150 this bass kills. I play at a large church with an incredibly nice sound system, and man the difference. Our sound man continues to tell me on the rare occasion that I fill in how much much of a difference there is with the sound of the bass. Looks good, feels good (Nice smaller neck) Solid Tuning pegs, simply awesome. I would recommend it for ANYONE, even more experienced players as a backup. The only negative thing is that it can have some major grounding issues that causes buzzing, so just make sure everything is grounded and you're good.

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

I have been playing guitar mainly and bass for 27 years, inexpensive and inexpensive. I bought this bass for my daughters 1st bass in 2011, she is 13 now and loves it. I will say this bass is fantastic especially for the money, plays and sounds great. so impressed with this thing that I'm looking at some dean guitars, this is the 1st dean product I've ever bought.

    Not bad for a starter!!

    By Sedric Scott

    from Charlotte, NC

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

I'm just getting into playing bass and decided to start off with this model. I've had it for about 2 months and so far so good especially for the price. There are some minor issues with tuning and other small things but overall I'm pleased with it.

Nice sounding Starter instrument for little $$$

    By John Morris

    from Youngstown, Ohio

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

I bought this Bass for my 10 year old to jam with our youth string-Rock band. I have to say I was pleased with its tone quality. It only has one soap-bar pickup so you don't have a great tone range, but its position makes it perfect for playing rock. Nice fairly thin neck, really nice tuning machines, and a hot rod look, make this a nice value. I would have rated it five stars but the nut fell off while I had the strings off to do a little hot rod pinstriping. The nut was not fitted and glued properly, no big deal really. Over all this bass has the sound quality to keep a student interested at a price that mom and dad won't mind.

    Best bass ever man

    By lucas stephenson

    from tennessee

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

This was the first bass I got, And it was probably the best decision of my life. It sounds great and it plays great. The only problem is it seems to need repairs quite often but it is still an amazing bass. Cliff burton would even like this bass. It is that awesome.
