This guitar is simply great for metal. That whammy bar can make some pretty awesome pinch harmonics, and the guitar seems to sit just right for me. It also can have a really aggressive tone that all metal players will love. If you were going to choose a guitar for metal, just try this one. The one downside is it lacks some versatility, but still manages.

I Bought this guitar a month and a half ago and i have had nothing but troubles with it. If you had a money back return policy i would have sent my guitar back 1st day.issues are as follows:1st: got chipped and re-finished over top!2nd: the nut was not properly placed on the neck so ther is a creek when using trem3rd: the pickups are no where close to what should be presented in tone as a dime guitar4th: the trem is CHEAP(floyd rose "special"! strings pop out daily and need to be changed becasue it shred the ends.5th: not a clean tone coming from the guitar itself (unamped) it buzzes even with the highest of actions or perfect leveling of the trem6th: the neck feels like something id cut off the tree in my backyard.my opinion is that if you are going to fulfill your dream of owning a beautiful piece of work like a razorback I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ONE. Spend more money on your purchase becasue dean seems to cheaply slander dimes name onto pieces of wood with strings attached if your not willing to pay $2500.

    Beautiful metal shredder

    By brandon regan

This standard Razorback is like a dream to me. However, i was buying a different Dean i was buying one with the custom lightning graphics. If i had more money i would have bought this one also. The only exception is the neck, but ill get use to it. The feel of the fretboard is amazing. I would have fixed the floyd rose by using an original floyd rose with the same locking nut. I would love to go back to guitarcenter can buy this guitar.

    Pretty good guitar

    By Ryan Davis

    from Dover, DE

Just got one of these about a month ago and it's feirce. It's got a great sound, awsome for shredding and it sounds better than my 1,000$ V. It's without a doubt the coolest looking guitar, I actually bought it just because I thought it'd look good on stage but once I played it I realised it sounds just as sick as it looks. The downside is it's pretty uncomfortable and heavy. It's hard to play sitting down you have to get it into a weird position and it makes it hard to play, and if you play it standing up it'll start to hurt your back after like 30 minutes. It's my first guitar with a Floyd Rose bridge and it's hard to get used to. The first few times I re-strung it I wanted to smash it against my wall but I got a friend to show me how to do it right and I got used to it. It's pretty limited to playing styles, mostly metal to hard rock. I was never into those genres but since I got this guitar I've been learning a bunch of heavy stuff, I've been playing Mastodon, Iron Maiden, Van Halen and some Metallica on it and it's great for that but I tried playing some Hendrix and some Zeppelin and it just didn't feel right. Overall. Sounds awsome, looks great it's uncomfortable but when it plays like it does I can forget about that.

    Solid Buy

    By HolloWI

    from Undisclosed

The case it comes with would be better as a hard case, but it's a solid case for a custom shape which is greatly appreciated as a throw in. the cables that come with it are on the cheap end and i didn't even bother to try them cause i got the same crap cables from my Dean Bass. The biggest knock on this thing is probably it's size, but i feel quite comfortable with it and it only takes a few sessions walking around with it before you realize you should be more mindful of it's length. You can really play this thing in and not have to worry about coming out of tune. String bends to the max and yanking on the floyd rose doesn't seem to have much impact on it. the locking nut makes it so you dont' have to worry too much about string gauge either...which is nice if you experiment with heavier gauges.
The locking nut works great and i haven't had problems getting out of tune dispite really playing it in and experimenting with the floyd rose. the wammy bar feels solid and stays loose so you can crank it up or pull it away from the pickups and go down with it. the shape is what gets me with this thing. you can have comfort from a good range of positions. I typically play standing up and you can have the V on your knee and play more upright or keep the neck horizontal like you see most guitarists. This guitar is kind of on the large end, so make sure you put one on and feel if you think it's dwarfing you. volume knobs for each pickup independently are nice and feel good and move solid.
I got this thing out of the box and had no problems with the action and string buzz....it sounded great right after a tune up. It's my third guitar after a learner and a pawn shop find. I knew i wanted something a little more durable because at this point i am overplaying the other guitars i had and have not been let down. pickups sound good....not great..but you're not paying crazy prices here either...i get more noise from the effects pedals than the guitar.
I think this is a great price point for decent equipment.

    it's just straight BRUTAL

    By M3Tal M4Niac

    from paw paw michigan

This was my 3rd guitar and it was the first guitar i got at guitar center, after hearing a bc rich bronze and some weird stratocaster ripoff through a line 6, i was only going meh. the minute i plugged in my razorback into a line 6 spider iv , i almost cried in joy, it was a godly brutal sound, and the body is obviousely sexy, and the inlays with the smooth neck really make it an excellent quality guitar for the money. i recommend this to anyone that loves metal and loves guitars.

    Great Deal, Needs Work

    By gimpy311

    from Colorado Springs, CO

I got this guitar as a graduation gift, and I had been dreaming of getting a Razorback for a long time. Dime was a huge influence on my music, but I really must admit that this guitar needed work. First, the pick-ups needed to be changed. There was a terrible grounding issue with them so they produced a nasty buzz when I wasn't touching it. I put the EMG HZ (passive 81 and 85) pick-ups in and now the tone is amazing. The action on it is phenomenal considering the price, but the Floyd Rose needed to be changed. Yes, it held for some time, but after about 3 months it started to deteriorate and slip. All in all, a great guitar for the price, just replace the pickups and tremolo.
