We purchased this guitar based on its color. My 6 year old loves pink. Her older brother has a few guitars and she wanted a pink one. For the Price, what the heck we bought it. This little guitar sound very nice and despite other reviews, The Tuners are great quality compared to others in this price range and one of the features that most impressed me. The Gretsch style "Zero" fret is a good cheap resolution to producing a quality sound out of this smaller ax. This may not be a good choice for playing on stage but for learning and coupled with the price, couldn't be better. This Guitar seems to be lying around in the living room and gets picked up and played almost more than our other guitars. My daughter is learning open chords, power chords and fingering with this guitar. She learned "Wild thing" the other day and that is her first song. I wouldn't hesitate to buy anther one and would recommend it to anyone looking for a beginner guitar for a child.

I read the mixed reviews on this guitar and I have to say I have to go with the other folks that gave it a low review. I bought this guitar as a starter for my seven year old daughter. I am a guitar player myself and I am sorely disappointed. #1 I was actually looking for a nylon based guitar and this a steel string. Something any novice guitar purchaser should know but the description does not tell you. 2nd as I began to tune it it would not tune easily and immediately popped a string!! I was barely even near the correct note!! 3rd I could hear the buzzing sound everyone has been talking about. I am taking it back and will spend the extra $30 for a decent instrument. If you are serious about getting your child started on playing, pay the extra it's worth it. Otherwise go extra cheap and go to Toys R Us and buy the $20 one it will save you the money.

Guitar string came in faulty

Comments about Dean Playmate JT 3/4 Size Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar I got for my niece. The product is great and it was light weight, cute a perfect one for a kid. However my product had some fault. The 3rd string was faulty when it came, the spring near the bridge was cut and it gave up on the first tuning itself. I would have rated this product 4 if the string was good

I hate to bash this guitar, but...............

By Jim Kielma

from Joliet, IL

Comments about Dean Playmate JT 3/4 Size Acoustic Guitar:

I searched reviews on this guitar. They were mixed with some hating it and some loving it, so I decided to purchase one. First off, the paint job stinks. No gloss finish, but that doesn't affect the sound so I let that go. This guitar is so fragile that even if it had no other problems, whoever handles it would have to be very careful with it. The last thing (and most important) is the mystery 1/4 fret at the top of the neck. Not sure if this is just a very poor design, very poor craftsmanship, or who knows. I couldn't even strum the strings because the action was so off. When I ordered this guitar for my son I didn't have huge expectations, but this wasn't even toy worthy.

OK for a first guitar

By James Hanlon

from Houston,TX

Comments about Dean Playmate JT 3/4 Size Acoustic Guitar:

My first guitar was an acoustic I bought at age 7 from a neighbor for $5 and it was a beautiful full size acoustic. I bought this little Pink Playmate (and lets emphasize little) for my daughter but she thinks it's too small with a small sound. It buzzes on a few strings and frets so the quality is just not there; however, it plays better than any guitar you can find at a toy store. We bought it online without playing it so that was a mistake but overall a great starter guitar for her.

This guitar is nothing more than a decoration.

By Ken Van Etten

Comments about Dean Playmate JT 3/4 Size Acoustic Guitar:

Purchased this guitar for my 8 year old daughter...kept it for about 1 day. The guitar would not hold tune. I returned it...currently looking around for a better starter guitar that does hold tune. This guitar is nothing more than a decoration. Can not believe that Dean puts their name on it!

Simply awesome

By Melissa Dereberry

Comments about Dean Playmate JT 3/4 Size Acoustic Guitar:

I looked high and low for a beginner guitar that wasn't a toy. And I found it! This guitar is perfect for my daughter. It's smaller size, well made, and it sounds really good. Buy this guitar - you will love it!

Comments about Dean Playmate JT 3/4 Size Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this for my son not realizing that it is a smaller size. We ended up giving it to my step daughter instead and it was perfect for her. It is the perfect size and it is well made and has a beautiful sound.

No Way!

By Joe Soulagnet

from Gresham, OR

Comments about Dean Playmate JT 3/4 Size Acoustic Guitar:

My grand daughter told me she wanted to learn how to play the guitar but her fingers are too small to play an adult sized guitar. I had no idea what the market had to offer but I had played a couple of Dean guitars over the years and was very satisfied with the quality of instruments they produced. As an experienced guitar player of fourty years I was blown away by the sound coming from this little guitar when it arrived. The quality of this little marvel is unique in beginning musical instruments. You will not be dissapointed with this excellent purchase!

Great guitar - for about a year

By Lu Ann

from Flower Mound, TX

Comments about Dean Playmate JT 3/4 Size Acoustic Guitar:

We loved this guitar - purchased it for our granddaughter's birthday. She loved it too. However, after about a year one of the gears in the tuning peg stopped working. We have dismantled it trying to determine what is wrong but cannot "see" any visible sign of why it won't work. The result is the high E string cannot be tuned, just lays there limp, because we cannot wind it up on the peg. If you're looking for something to last longer than a toy, I would steer clear of this one.
