OK, but there are better options

By Tim Rehm

from Washington, DC

Comments about Dean Playmate Avalanche J 3/4 Size Electric Guitar:

I ordered this from GC for my daughter because she wanted a silver guitar. I bought a red Squire Mini for my son and daughter to share, but my son was hogging the Squire. She is happy with the Dean, but the Squire is a better guitar. The Dean is lighter, which is better for a little kid, but the Squire sounds better and plays better.

Good for young students

By R E Hartz

from Medford, N.J.

Comments about Dean Playmate Avalanche J 3/4 Size Electric Guitar:

Well constructed for the price. Pickups are surprisingly powerful, and the sound is quite good.I am an adult and don't have much experience with 3/4 size guitars. The tuning is touchy, but I think this is due to the shorter scale and is to be expected. I bought this guitar for a friend to use for smaller students at his music school. The biggest negative for this guitar is that the intonation was way off as received. The bridge should have been mounted about another 1/4" away from the pickups. I was barely able to correct the intonation. The low E saddle had to be moved to it's limit of adjustment, and all the other saddles had to be moved a 1/4 inch or more to correct the intonation.
