Comments about Dean ML Switchblade Floyd HSH - Classic Black:
Let me start by saying this guitar has features and build quality that meets and exceeds USA Gibson, Fenders, etc. First, the tone. Just incredible tone and versatile. You can play any style from blues to death metal on this guitar and it would sound great. It comes in a HSH pickup configuration with a master volume, dual tone knobs for the humbucker's that also serve as push/pull coil split for each pickup along with a 5 way Fender style blade switch that opens options of tone with the coil tapping on the humbucker's that Fender's can only dream about. The front pickup is a DMT Nostalgia that has a very nice and warm sound but can also be over driven and sound great, think a classic PAF pickup. The middle pickup is a DMT SCVH, which stands for single coil vintage hot. It slightly over wound and is hotter than most single coil but still has a fantastic tone by itself or paired with either of the humbucker's, once again very warm sounding and the true surprise to me of this guitar since I didn't think I'd use it very much. But it has no Hum when played alone and sounds really good paired with the others. The bridge pickup is a DMT Baker Act Pickup that is like a Duncan JB on steroids. It's the pickup that the head pickup designer at Dean, Pat Baker designed for himself, it's also available for for resel as an add on to other guitars and I highly recommend it. This was my first experience with this pickup and it is very hot. I had to role the tone down some for the music I was playing. But with it being that hot you can dial in what you want with the tone knob and the leads just scream and still have clarity. Next is playability. It is a 24 fret, 24 3/4 short scale guitar with a very thin Mustaine D neck (I have a Mustaine, same neck) . It's very fast and very playable. Now if you like a thicker neck or are used to a neck with "more" to get your hand around, you may not like it, but I love the both Slim and Fat necks. The Original Floyd Rose Pro works awesome.
