I bought this guitar because I wanted a Les Paul style guitar and did not have a lot of money to spend. When it arrived, I was shocked. The set-up was awsome. The action was better than any guitar I've ever played. It has a great sound and is very easy to play. Dollar for dollar, by far the best guitar money can buy. I will definitly buy another Dean in the future. I can't wait to see what the more expensive models are like.

This guitar company has very poor Quality control and that is puting it as nice as I can. First I would say the neck and fret board are the only reason I gave 2 stars. I had the guitar professionally set up(it was brand new ) 2 out of the 6 bridge saddles were completely trashed one of the pickups were grounding out. and get ready for the best part the bridge holes and studs were drilled to far forward so the guitar can never be corectly intonated. It has become a toy for my 1 year old son, I will be buying a real LP not a china knock off . Dean should be ashamed of themselves. Not my first guitar either , Have a Gibson NightHawk, Ibanez fishman , Fender Concord, USA Fender Strat. I got a lemon of a guitar , it should come in Neon Yellow :)

Pros

    Cons

    • Poor Quality Craftsmanship

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

Switch only worked in middle position, and sometimes that was flakey. Not a natural wood finish, but rather spray painted an unappealing brown. I returned the guitar.

      Best Uses

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

After returning to guitar after 20 years away, this was a good guitar to get my feet wet again. I've played it now for a little over a year and here are my thoughts:
The construction and build quality are good, it is a solid guitar even though it's not high end. The body is very light, has good contours and sets itself well if I play sitting or standing. The neck and fret board are great, but might be a bit thin for some, I really like them though. Smooth, easy to play and in my opinion, nicer than some high end guitars I've played.
It DID NOT come set up well from the factory at all. The factory strings were JUNK and were changed out immediately. The neck needed to be adjusted, as did the action, pickups, bridge and saddles. It struggled to stay in tune and intoned. I still wasn't happy after the set up from my local GC so I actually took it to a local luthier who did a great job with it with minimal work involved. After that it played like an absolute champ with zero issues. Just needed some TLC.
The two things I've changed out since then were pretty simple. First was the tuners. I switched them out to a set of locking Grovers. The stock ones just felt a bit wonky after 6 or so months of playing them and the adjustments were a bit mushy.
The second was the pickups. For entry level pickups they really played very well. Good volume control, and they responded well to adjustments with the tone control. I could get a good clean tone from them, the bluesy tone from them was very nice and some pretty good metal as well. But as my playing ear got better, (and after playing several other guitars) I was less happy with them when I pushed them a bit, especially turned up under some heavier metal tones or with a lot of gain. They tended to get a bit muddy in my opinion. Swapped out for a set of Seymour Duncans and I couldn't be happier. Now it sounds as good as it feels to play.
I've now played and own other guitars, but I keep coming back to my EVO. It's really just a fun, easy guitar to play and for the money (even with the investment) I couldn't be happier.

        Great Buy!!!

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

Picking up a guitar again after 20 some odd years since I plunked around. Way more product than I expected for the money. Not only is it beautiful the craftsmanship and feel are amazing. Some of my "real" guitar playing friends were shocked when they picked it up.

        For the Price

        By Derek LeFebre

        from WI

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I received mine as a early christmas gift from my wife. The construction is good, the pickups/electronics are good, the fret board is excellent. Now it come with a cheap set of 9's on it which didn't help the relief of the neck at all, action was very low, the neck has a little s curve to it around the 5th fret, and half the screws on the pickups were not screwed in all the way. I brought it in to have it set up and new strings put on. Still has a little curve to the neck, stays in tune with the new set of 10's, action is a little high but I can live with it. Dean support is poor to say the least, which makes this my last Dean product. But what do you expect for this price. I would suggest the esp ltd ec-50.

        Awesome Axe

        By Garry Anslow

        from Uhrichsville, Ohioi

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I read a lot of these reviews when I purchased this guitar. I wanted a good low budget guitar. This guitar is it. I ordered this guitar online hesitantly because after working for a large company and unloading truck after truck I've seen how basic merchandise (like TVs) is handled. This guitar was well packed and taken care of. I've been very impressed with this axe. Minimal setup was needed out of the box, stays in tune well, and has the tone I was looking for. Can't say it enough, this axe is a beast. The humbuckers sound great. Great sustain and clarity. Quality construction, even with a bolt on neck. Fingerboard feels great, and wonderful action. Light enough to carry for hours, with sustain to spare. Haven't seen any downside as of yet. Dean, you just got another loyal follower on one of your cheaper guitars, can't wait to hear how the more expensive ones sound!

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

it worked for a while but the thing is cheaper than dirt quality wise. the finish breaks like glass if it gets even slightly banged into anything. it cant stay in tune and it feels cheap. the nut broke and the bridge broke. i ended up getting a fender american standard and never looked back at this piece of trash.

Great for starters or as a backup.

        By Dominic Duran

        from Albuquerque, NM

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

This was my first guitar I've ever owned and for the money it's a steal.. You get some pretty decent tone out of this thing and it's also built well and has a nice Mahogany finish.. Nowadays I have a Epiphone Les Paul with Seymour Duncan P-Rails and a Floyd Rose but I still use my Dean Evo on stage in a different tuning (Usually open D) so if you want a nice starter or backup guitar check this thing out.

        By mike pataki

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I've played much better cheap guitars then this one... fret buzz on low E, goes out of tune at alot; cheap wood grain finish doesn't match...on the plus side the pick-ups are decent and it's light weight! This guitar is great for little kids who prob will just destroy it anyway!
