I bought this guitar because I wanted a Les Paul style guitar and did not have a lot of money to spend. When it arrived, I was shocked. The set-up was awsome. The action was better than any guitar I've ever played. It has a great sound and is very easy to play. Dollar for dollar, by far the best guitar money can buy. I will definitly buy another Dean in the future. I can't wait to see what the more expensive models are like.

This guitar company has very poor Quality control and that is puting it as nice as I can. First I would say the neck and fret board are the only reason I gave 2 stars. I had the guitar professionally set up(it was brand new ) 2 out of the 6 bridge saddles were completely trashed one of the pickups were grounding out. and get ready for the best part the bridge holes and studs were drilled to far forward so the guitar can never be corectly intonated. It has become a toy for my 1 year old son, I will be buying a real LP not a china knock off . Dean should be ashamed of themselves. Not my first guitar either , Have a Gibson NightHawk, Ibanez fishman , Fender Concord, USA Fender Strat. I got a lemon of a guitar , it should come in Neon Yellow :)

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about 3 months ago and it's pulled through like a champ. It still sounds great, all the hardware is in good condition, and it stays in tune. Overall, it's a great guitar.

Cheap but effective.

By BlueMick

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I am new to playing guitar and didn't want to spend alot for something I might not enjoy. I looked around at the different guitars and bang for the buck went with the dean. The biggest problem I have read is about the tuners how the don't hold tune well. I did find if you replace the factory strings it will help greatly. Also make sure to strecth the strings before you expect them to hold tune. The only other problem I personally have come acrost with this guitar is the weight. It's ballence is not all that great. I weighted down the body and it took care of the problem. Would I recomend this guitar for a pro. . . No of course not but if you looking for a cheap guitar to learn the basics on or a guitar for younger people I would recomend this one.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

Now this is guitar has value. Forget the Squier, forget the Les Paul Jr. 90. Get this guitar. Very well-made and great tone. Not a big fan of the finish, but who cares when the guitar sound great. Beginners and vets alike should give the Evo a serious look.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I have been a owner for about a year. This guitar is by far the best for the price. Although there is minor fret buzz the guitar is very tough. From beach to bedroom you will enjoy this guitar.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

This was my first "real guitar" and it was well worth the money. When I got it I thought it was beautiful beyond belief and it sounds better than it looks. All I have to say is that you cant go wrong with this puppy and it will make a great gift for any beginning or intermediate guitarist.

great starter

By Joe

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about 3 years ago and it's still going strong. The Pickups do a very good job for the price range, both clean and distorted. One of the things that kind of bothered me was that when you tune down to D standard or B the 6th string gives some nasty fret buzz, but nothing you can't fix by buying heavier strings. And who can complain when its a price as good as this? This baby holds tune very well which was almost shocking when I would see it hold its tune for 3 days at a time. Even after playing it for hours each day. The neck is very comfortable, very easy to slide up and down without getting a sore thumb. The action and sustain is again very decent for the price of this guitar. One bad thing was the screws fall out easily where you plug your cord in, was able to fix the problem with some tape but its still pretty annoying. Anyways, all in all the Dean Evo XM is a great guitar for beginners. However if you have already been playing for a while and are looking for a second guitar I would recommend looking for something else. 4/5.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I got this as a first electric guitar and have bene very happy with it. I was actually pretty surprised that the "cheap, throw-away" guitar I thought I was buying turned out to be a nice instrument. Maybe I'll keep it for a while.

Good For The Money!

By Dustin

from Norton, OH

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I have been playing for 5 years now. And giving you my two cents here, This guitar is a very good guitar for the money! Heck $99 for a nice guitar that is actually worth it..And if you even wanted to you could just replace the pick ups and give it more bite if you feel the need. But all i'm simply saying is if you want a better then beginner guitar that will last you...then just BUY IT

Very good for the price

By Matt D

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

Definitely the best axe available in the price range. Will surely need an initial setup. Sound is decent and playability is good. Its a good looking axe, some minor finish blotches on mine but nothing to cry about. I am happy with it. I definitely recommend it to a begining guitarist orjust as a collection addition (like mine).

Better Than Imagined!

By vato

from Illinois

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I agree with some other comments that the tuners could be upgraded but for the price that is something that could be done when your budget allows! This guitar plus a new set of grovers would still be very competitive with the Squire and lower grade LP's out there! I own 5 other Deans aside form this one and I haven't had a bad one yet! I would definitely advise getting this guitar for beginners, and upcoming musician.

good but...

By Tyler Augustus DeSaint

from Kalamazoo, MI

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

Overall, this is a pretty good guitar for the money. However, the neck buzzes horribly, the wiring is cheep (had to rewire it with heavier gauge wire), the pots are scratchy, the body uncomfortable, and on mine, the bridge, tailpiece and pickup routing is not quite square with the neck (yes, I know the bridge is supposed to be slightly diagonal). It's as if the routing template was at a slight angle compared to where it was supposed to be. The bright side is that most of those problems can be fixed with a little work. Frets need to be dressed and leveled, but adjusting the truss rod and saddle height got rid of MOST of the buzz. Body is bass wood with a colored polymer finish, so it was pretty easy to carve some comfort contours into it. Definitely worth the money if you have some very basic woodworking and soldering skills. It's a good first guitar, but don't expect it to be perfect out of the box.

Excellent value

By Rick

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I am a total "hobbyist", been plinking at guitars since I was a teen. This guitar was perfect for me price-wise. The low price however did not equate to low quality. This is an easy, fun and well mae guitar to play. I highly recommend for beginners and occassional guitarist. I use it on my home computer with Jam Lab. Cheaper than an amp and all athe effects I need.

Dean Evo XM review

By Armat

from Boston

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

After looking numerous guitars (total beginner)I took a chance on Dean's XM and I am glad I did. 1.I don't work for Dean honest opinion here. 2.Great sound 3.Wood and not cheap plywood 4 decent hardware for the price 5.Price can't beat it 6.Adjustability. My guitar came with strings not well sorted out that is my G string was buzzing on 12 fret.NO problem your saddle has adjustable screws on each string so it is easy to adjust furthermore I adjusted the action height by tightening the rod on the neck (easy) and saddle bolts both ends. The point is for this price this guitar has everything one needs to start enjoying music without hurting your bank. I also bought Korg Tuner CA-30 and it is the best easiest Tuner out there. You need a Tuner since after every adjustment you need to tune. The only negative is that the guitar does not come with any instructions for caring or adjusting however little google search and I found all the tips. 5 star based on the points I mentioned.Fantastic sound.

Not Good

By Ngoo Nam

from Tukwila, Wa

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I was expecting a good guitar when I got this one. A few chords, a few licks, then problems. The guitar detunes to a sharp when you pull hard on the neck for barre chords. Once you let go, ease the pressure, it drops back a half-step. Same with licks that uses the first 5 to 7 frets. The neck bends backwards when you pull and press hard on it, and bends forward when you release, or when you push forward. Horrible. I've seen on this on many Gibsons, Fenders, Ibanezes, Washburns, and others, even on the high end expensive ones like Les Pauls, American Standards, etc. A good Martin never plays like this. Or my Yamaha 335II. Or my Fender Standard Strat. Or my Ibanez Artcore. My old Rocky Strat copy has this problem, though. This Dean is good for light handed players, I bet. But, if you play aggressive music, use this as your third backup.
