I bought this guitar because I wanted a Les Paul style guitar and did not have a lot of money to spend. When it arrived, I was shocked. The set-up was awsome. The action was better than any guitar I've ever played. It has a great sound and is very easy to play. Dollar for dollar, by far the best guitar money can buy. I will definitly buy another Dean in the future. I can't wait to see what the more expensive models are like.

This guitar is a great plays to start out, have as an extra or for a recreational player.
Solid construction, nice feel, great tone. We're not talking about the finest hand craftsmanhip, but we also not talking about a mess. It is well built, and is an excellent guitar for a beginner or for someone like me who likes to have a guitar around but isn't going to be making a living with it. That being said, I also wouldn't have any problems seeing this as a guitar that gets used extensively for gigging.
This is my second Dean item and they have both been fantastic. My first Dean cost significantly more than this, but plays and sounds just as good. There are not a lot of bells and whistles but what is included works well, and sounds great. It is a very good buy.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

This was the fist guitar I ever purchased myself so right out of the gate I had very high hopes for this work horse. Affordable is definitely an understatement, took right around two weeks to save up money from cutting grass to get this heading my way. ( Fourteen year old priorities ) For this price of this Dean it isn't like you'd be expecting a Gibson quality built weapon. The construction is probably the most negative issue, specifically the bolt on neck construction. Fret buzz was very noticeable on any amp setting or just picking around unplugged. Another hardware problem I had was the volume nobs came off within about a monthly of regularly playing this piece. The pros of the EVO for me were the sturdiness of the neck, despite the bolt on configuration playing chunky chords had a very powerful feel and sound in small venues. Pretty decent for jamming, practices and small/ school sized events. Easily a great choice for a novice guitarist willing to put in the time and effort of the next level of playing and recording. Hats off to Budget Dean Guitar

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

Purchased just before a sale. Real guitarists who've played it gave it a thumbs up. One of tone nobs isn't super secure but hasn't came off. It's a little slippery to hold when your practicing on a stool so get a solid strap to insure it doesn't slide out on you. I was surprised how heavy it was but then its been 35 years since I held a solid body electric. It didn't need any adjusting, holds tune and for a beginner it would make sense if they received one like it. Dean's got their act together on this one.

Great Guitar for ONE Purpose

Cons

    • Slide

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

Get one of these and a Grover Perfect Guitar Nut, raise the pickups as high as you can, turn the volume and tone all the way up, pair it with a cheap, sleazy amp and maybe your favorite squawky wah, and you have a truly nasty, greasy, slide machine. You won't play anything on it other than slide, but you won't want to.

    Seriously. Trust me on this.

Switch only worked in middle position, and sometimes that was flakey. Not a natural wood finish, but rather spray painted an unappealing brown. I returned the guitar.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

After returning to guitar after 20 years away, this was a good guitar to get my feet wet again. I've played it now for a little over a year and here are my thoughts:
The construction and build quality are good, it is a solid guitar even though it's not high end. The body is very light, has good contours and sets itself well if I play sitting or standing. The neck and fret board are great, but might be a bit thin for some, I really like them though. Smooth, easy to play and in my opinion, nicer than some high end guitars I've played.
It DID NOT come set up well from the factory at all. The factory strings were JUNK and were changed out immediately. The neck needed to be adjusted, as did the action, pickups, bridge and saddles. It struggled to stay in tune and intoned. I still wasn't happy after the set up from my local GC so I actually took it to a local luthier who did a great job with it with minimal work involved. After that it played like an absolute champ with zero issues. Just needed some TLC.
The two things I've changed out since then were pretty simple. First was the tuners. I switched them out to a set of locking Grovers. The stock ones just felt a bit wonky after 6 or so months of playing them and the adjustments were a bit mushy.
The second was the pickups. For entry level pickups they really played very well. Good volume control, and they responded well to adjustments with the tone control. I could get a good clean tone from them, the bluesy tone from them was very nice and some pretty good metal as well. But as my playing ear got better, (and after playing several other guitars) I was less happy with them when I pushed them a bit, especially turned up under some heavier metal tones or with a lot of gain. They tended to get a bit muddy in my opinion. Swapped out for a set of Seymour Duncans and I couldn't be happier. Now it sounds as good as it feels to play.
I've now played and own other guitars, but I keep coming back to my EVO. It's really just a fun, easy guitar to play and for the money (even with the investment) I couldn't be happier.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I move around a lot and am tired of losing valuable equipment. I bought this guitar to write and flesh out new material and to be more to the point, I was surprised. Considering the price little work is needed to get this guitar sounding great on the peavey vypyr vip1 I bought strictly to accompany it. Worst feature is the frets are rough and need filed, so be warned on that end. A little tweaking on the modeling amp and this guitar sounds like a much more expensive model.

The Shop that did the Set-up was able to do it. The Musician's Friend Folks were outstanding on their return policy. The Folks I dealt with were knowledgeable and professional. They put up with my persistence to get a working, useable guitar. I would use these Folks again and recommend them to others. Not because the quality of the Dean Product but because of their People and return policy. They paid far more in shipping for the 3 returns than I did for the Guitar.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

First off, i have to say if i say anything negative, it should be taken with a grain of salt because in its price range, this is a great guitar.

Right out of the box, i found the color not matching the image, however personally i found its true color pleasing. The guitar has a comfortable feel, not overly heavy, but not cheap feeling either. The neck feels comfortable, the tuners generally stay well in tune. i like the adjustable bridge, its a nice feature. The tone control is decently dynamic. the selector is a bit sticky sometimes, and that can become annoying. Also i find that the pickups are a bit close in range so as not to give the greatest differentiation, but still, its not an expensive guitar.

So all in all, i recommend this model for the price, it has a good sound and i find it pleasing. it also has a lot of potential. I made just go crazy and drop some P-90's in there, who knows. lol :) great for starter, or just a base for a custom.

When I first played the plastic holding the frets in poke out on the neck scratching my hand then as I play some notes some of the frets touch the sting I will be returning the guitar to replace it to see if it was just a defect or if they just make the guitar like that also UPS came the product was extremely cold which warps the neck they need to get a courier service that has a heated carrier

Purchased as a practice, knock around guitar. Like the sound and performability better than Les Paul or 335. It plays a lot like Strat but with less weight than any of the above. All around great guitar. I just don't see how Dean can make this quality guitar and sell for this price. I use it for Country/western Bluegrass, and Gospel. Great all around guitar.
